Inherited from Proto-Turkic *tabïĺgan (hare); cognate with Old Turkic 𐱃𐰉𐰽𐰍𐰣 (tabïšɣan), Azerbaijani dovşan, Karakhanid تَڤِشْغانْ (tavïšɣān), Turkmen towşan, Uyghur توشقان (toshqan), Uzbek tovushqon and Yakut табысхан (tabısqan).
