Inherited from Old Anatolian Turkish آغْ (, net), from Proto-Turkic *āg (net). Cognate with Old Turkic 𐰍 (ǧ /⁠ag⁠/), Azerbaijani , Bashkir ау (aw), Kazakh ау (au), Kyrgyz уу (uu), Tatar ав (aw), Turkmen ag and Uzbek av.
