The basic climate of the Northeast can be divided into a colder and snowier interior, including western Maryland, most of Pennsylvania, most of [[North Jersey]], [[Upstate New York]], and most of New England, and a milder coastal plain region from [[Cape Cod]] and southern [[Rhode Island]] southward, including [[Long Island]], [[Southern Connecticut]], [[New York City]], central and southern [[New Jersey]], part of the Pennsylvania portion of the [[Delaware Valley]] including [[Philadelphia]], [[Delaware]], and most of [[Maryland]]. In the latter region the [[hardiness zone]] ranges from 7a to 8a.
