Replaced CSD templates

edit

Is there a way to have the bot not re-warn a user about an impending deletion when all that was done was a restoration of the csd template (that had been removed by the user)? For example, User_talk:Comartiscasa where the bot added a note about impending csd with my warning about the same csd right above it. Syrthiss (talk) 13:42, 2 February 2010 (UTC)Reply

Whoa, completely missed this, sorry. I'll have a look at adding this to the bot. And let you know the result. Cheers, - Kingpin13 (talk) 10:19, 6 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
This has now (hopefully) been   Fixed. I've made the bot ignore the removal of speedy deletions if they are immediately re-added. Thanks for pointing this out :). Best, - Kingpin13 (talk) 10:16, 19 March 2010 (UTC)Reply
Not a prob :) Syrthiss (talk) 11:36, 19 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Confused notification

edit

Howdy. The bot thinks I created an article, that I did not create. My only edit to that article, was added a disambig hatnote to it in 2007. This note, just in case it's helpful to refining the bot's workings. (false positives an understood phenomena ;) Thanks. -- Quiddity (talk) 02:30, 27 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Dan012752 actually created the article. Bug? --Jubileeclipman 02:37, 27 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
I know what the problem here is, and I will have it fixed later today. Thanks for letting me know :) - Kingpin13 (talk) 07:35, 27 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, Kingpin13 --Jubileeclipman 08:02, 27 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Same thing with TVF Media,[1] which I didn't create, merely did a cleanup. If the bug is fixed now, no problem. Ty 18:21, 27 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk%3ASinneed&action=historysubmit&diff=359001838&oldid=358668270 - it just tagged me... old version still running? - Sinneed 05:54, 29 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
Aye, waiting for ThaddeusB to start the new one up, I can block the bot in the meantime if you think it's worth it. - Kingpin13 (talk) 06:58, 29 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
I shouldn't think so, just wanted to be sure the folks in charge of the bot knew it was still wandering about in a slightly confused state. :) - Sinneed 12:53, 29 April 2010 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion of Template:R to altername name

Hello Topbanana, this is a message from an automated bot to inform you that the page you created, Template:R to altername name, has been marked for speedy deletion by User:Topbanana. This has been done because the page is a recently created redirect from an implausible typo or misnomer (see CSD). If you think the tag was placed in error, please add "hangon" to the page text, and edit the talk page to explain why the page should not be deleted. If you have a question about this bot, please ask it at User talk:SDPatrolBot II. If you have a question for the user who tagged the article, see User talk:Topbanana. Thanks, - SDPatrolBot II (talk) on behalf of Topbanana (talk · contribs) 00:03, 4 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Couple of notes:

  1. The CSD note was added by User:R'n'B, not me.
  2. "If you have a question about..." directs to this page. This page gives no details of how to unsubscribe for such notices - I had to user my super-brainy-wiki-powers to guess that the relevant info was on User:SDPatrolBot II instead.
  3. Possibly a big ask, but I'd've found the more notice useful if it had included:
    1. The date the redirect was created
    2. Nothing in the main namespace links to the CSD candidate
    3. How many edits had been carried out on the CSD candidate

Cheers. - TB (talk) 16:26, 4 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Looking into this, I'll let you know the result. - Kingpin13 (talk) 16:33, 4 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
  1.   Fixed
  2. plus  Added
  3. partly addressed.
    1. plus  Added
    2. Not much need, only really useful for redirects, and easy to find, not worth the extra time getting the links, imo, how about a bit of code in the template, to provide a link to whatlinkshere?
    3. Could do this, but is there a need? Why's this useful?
Best, - Kingpin13 (talk) 17:42, 4 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Good work, and a quick response. I'm assuming the goal of the bot is to improve oversight of speedy deletes. The first two things I check when evaluating a CSD request are the edit history (a rough measure of the work that's gone into the material in question), and "what links here" (the materials 'value' to the rest of the wiki). If you're operating on the toolserver, both of these are straighforward DB queries. Definately non-core for your tool, but might add a little extra bonus value to its messages. - TB (talk) 22:51, 4 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Okay, seems sensible enough to give this information, suggestions 3.2 and 3.3 have both been plus  Added. The bot's not actually on the toolserver, but I've managed to get these stats regardless. Hope that's satisfactory :). Bot should be back up shortly - Kingpin13 (talk) 19:04, 5 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Malfunction

edit

The bot appears to be malfunctioning and as a result. I have stopped it.

Here is a copy+paste of it's final output (see diff here) before stopping:

==Speedy deletion of :Jay-Z== Hello Bull Market, this is a message from an automated bot to inform you that the page you created on {}, :Jay-Z, has been marked for speedy deletion by User:ClapBoy380 (note: page has no mainspace links, and {} edits). This has been done because the page is a blatant advert that would require a substantial rewrite in order to become an encyclopedia article (see CSD). If you think the tag was placed in error, please add "<code>hangon</code>" to the page text, and edit the to explain why the page should not be deleted. If you have a question about this bot, please ask it at User talk:SDPatrolBot II. If you have a question for the user who tagged the article, see User talk:ClapBoy380. Thanks, - SDPatrolBot II (talk) on behalf of ClapBoy380 18:39, 7 May 2010 (UTC)

I'm assuming those parameters shouldn't be empty. In any case the bot shouldn't be putting them on people's talk pages. --Pumpmeup 21:13, 7 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

After brief further investigation it would appear whatever template the bot uses has broken in the previous 50 edits. It's broken 10 edits back but not 49 edits back. That might help you narrow it down, but in any case not too much damage has been done. --Pumpmeup 21:17, 7 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Hmm, thanks for the report. I haven't got the time to look at this at the moment. But just letting you know I'll review the code tomorrow. Cheers, - Kingpin13 (talk) 22:59, 7 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
'Tis tomorrow now here ;). You had me puzzled there, problem is just that an older version of the bot (before those changes to the template were made) is running, should be fixed soon. - Kingpin13 (talk) 23:07, 7 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
It seems the version of the bot running at the moment does not use User:SDPatrolBot II/run, so I've reverted to an older version of User:SDPatroBot II/Warning to work with the version of the bot which is running. - Kingpin13 (talk) 23:12, 7 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
Entirely my fault... I accidentally started up an old version of the bot this morning. Correct one is running now. --ThaddeusB (talk) 02:02, 8 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Accents

edit

I presume this is already known but just in case, I noticed two cases where an accent threw off the bot and a nonexistent userpage was created. ~ Amory (utc) 12:56, 22 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Just me being silly and using the wrong encoding, I think, if so   Fixed, but I haven't been able to test it on a user with a special char in their username, since I can't find any :D - Kingpin13 (talk) 23:25, 22 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Amendment of the template for user pages

edit

Hello— SDPatrolBot II recently left a message on my talk page saying that "the page [I] created on August 10 2007, Pink Guillotine, has been marked for speedy deletion." I didn't have any objections to this particular deletion, but I noted that the article was deleted a bit over 2 hours before the Bot left the message on my user page, which I think could easily be a very frustrating situation to anyone who actually did disagree with the decision. I suggest that the Bot message should include what Koavf wrote on my page when we were discussing the matter—that there is an option of a review. Currently the Bot message is worded as if it's a warning of impending deletion and encourages the user to take action before the deletion. Clearly in some cases the deletion will have already occurred by the time the message was left. I think it would be pretty easy for what I experienced to make someone who isn't familiar with Speedy Deletions to feel very disempowered, which a bad way to feel on Wikipedia. A line about how to initiate a review would be very helpful. Hopefully that makes sense? Best, JamesLucas (" " / +) 00:49, 24 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

Are you sure it's not the other way round, and that the bot delivered the messages two hours before deletion? It shouldn't actually be possible for the bot to leave messages about deleted pages, and it looks to me like the timing of the notice was before the deletion. However, it's true that the user may not see the message in time, so I can see an advantage in explaining about DRV. If you want, feel free to make a change to User:SDPatrolBot II/Warning - Kingpin13 (talk) 09:57, 24 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
