Content of 8mm and S8 dimensions in an image on Wikipedia
editHello Janke, The image in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_8_film#/media/File:8mm_and_super8.png has many dimensions that are incorrect. The image states that "Sizes taken from various (inconsistent) sources - if you have better numbers - please drop a note on my source page." I am new to Wikipedia and I have the actual numbers that should be in the images.
My name is John C Miller and I work at Eastman Kodak Company, I also Chair the SMPTE 20F Film Applications Committee. I was asked by someone in Japan about the dimensions shown in the image as they do not match SMPTE or ISO standards. The dimensional data in this image is incorrect. Could you make corrections to it?
Super 8 and Regular 8 Film Width 7.98 mm, (.314")
Super 8 Image Height 4.14mm, (0.163")
8mm Image Height 3.68mm, (0.145") 8mm Image Width 4.88mm, (.192")
You can contact me at john.c.miller@kodak.com. I have modified the file with corrections but as I was not the originator did not upload it to you. I would be happy to provide it to you if you e-mail me.

Thanks for the barnstar
editMuch appreciated! I believe I recognize your name from some good corrections you made to articles in the same field, so thanks for those too. I had not really looked into the barnstar concept before, but I'll keep it in mind.

re: Muybridge
editOops, although I didn't mind keeping the Muybridge name, Wikipedia automatically applied it with some saved changes after I added some info about his cousin. My main concern with changing his name to Muybridge in here, is related to that mention of the iron business with Sir Henry in 1862. There's a very slight chance that this news item concerned another Edward Muygridge. So to be sure that stated information is totally correct, it made sense to use the name as written in the original sources. Most other mentions of the name Muygridge have been confirmed to be about the person who later changed his name to Muybridge, but then I believe it's weird to claim that Muybridge used the new name "Muybridge". However, many people will probably prefer his later name and keep changing it. So, I won't insist on what I believe to be a more accurate and sensible text, but neither will I now make the effort to put back all the "Muybridges".
I wouldn't mind seeing your Muybridge documentary, but is it in Finnish? I'm afraid I can't even remember the three or four Finnish words I ever learned. Joortje1 (talk) 20:26, 6 April 2020 (UTC)
Muybridge documentary
editJust watched it! Very entertaining. I also liked the commercial animation reel on the same channel and recognized the claymation chicken from wikipedia. Nice work. Personally, I have not made any original animation worth mentioning, but have made video versions of many historical stroboscopic discs and other pre-cinema animations for Magical Motion Museum, including a Muybridge video that contains all the horse series from 1878-79. I think the image quality is much better than most Muybridge animations that I've seen so far: see https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oGRTEjTzgBc.Joortje1 (talk) 21:45, 6 April 2020 (UTC)

Growing lichens
editDear Janke, I have to ask if you yourself had grown the lichen in the shape of Mickey Mouse. I’m an artist with an interest in growing coloured lichen on granite sculptures and when I saw your picture I thought that’s it! Would you care to share at thoughts or tips on lichen cultivation? 😀 I don’t have a wiki account so you may contact me on Instagram @fasterbymachines — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.153.151.197 (talk) 13:16, 30 November 2021 (UTC)
- Sorry, I'm not on instagram. But I can tell you that the lichen has grown in that shape naturally - possibly encouraged by a dog or two... ;-) Did you see the 13 years later photo: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Lichen_Mickey_13_years_later.jpg - Best regards, --Janke | Talk 19:41, 30 November 2021 (UTC)

A demonstration of the effect of a multiplane camera, a motion-picture camera that was used in the traditional animation process that moves a number of pieces of artwork past the camera at various speeds and at various distances from one another. This creates a sense of parallax or depth. Various parts of the artwork layers are left transparent to allow other layers to be seen behind them. The movements are calculated and photographed frame by frame, with the result being an illusion of depth by having several layers of artwork moving at different speeds: the further away from the camera, the slower the speed. The multiplane effect is sometimes referred to as a parallax process. Video credit: Janke

Massive Monolithic Telescope moved to draftspace
editAn article you recently created, Massive Monolithic Telescope, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:

When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. — rsjaffe 🗣️ 04:11, 2 June 2022 (UTC)

editSo, I will need more time to work this, just not enough time to do what I want with the image since I might do something more creative with it rather than just perfect it as it is. How do I go about de-nominating it for the time being (I took it off the list)? I haven't yet nominated a picture, so I don't know the entire process - I did read what is in the project page. thank you for instructing me Radlrb (talk) 19:20, 10 February 2023 (UTC)
