Premise
editThe film will follow Bruce Springsteen on his journey to make his sixth album, a departure from his previous work and one representing the Boss at his most stripped-down and personal. Springsteen recorded Nebraska in the sparest, least fussy way possible—on a four-track cassette in his bedroom in New Jersey. This was a few years before he and his E Street Band became a phenomenon with Born in the U.S.A.[1]

Production
editThe project was first announced in March 2024, with Bruce Springsteen and his manager Jon Landau said to be actively involved with it. Producers are Scott Stuber, his first project since leaving as Chief of Film at Netflix, Ellen Goldsmith-Vein, Scott Cooper, Warren Zanes, and Eric Robinson, with Cooper writing and directing the adaptation of Zanes' non-fiction book of the same name. Jeremy Allen White was reported to be in talks to portray Springsteen and A24 was expected to acquire the distribution rights.[2][3][4] However, it was later revealed 20th Century Studios had acquired the film in a heated bidding war with A24, joining the project as financier and distributor. In May 2024, it was reported that Jeremy Strong was in talks to play Jon Landau.[5] Strong confirmed the casting in October 2024.[6] In June 2024, Paul Walter Hauser and Odessa Young joined the cast.[7] In September, Stephen Graham joined the cast as Bruce's father Douglas Springsteen,[8] while Harrison Gilbertson and Johnny Cannizzaro were added the following month.[9][10] In November 2024, it was announced that Marc Maron, Gaby Hoffmann, and David Krumholtz joined the cast.[11]
Principal photography began on October 28, 2024.[12][13][14] Filming is taking place primarily in New York and New Jersey, with additional photography in Los Angeles.[14][15] On November 1 and 4, 2024, Springsteen made special visits to the sets in Rockaway and Bayonne New Jersey where he met with White.[16]
