Bob Welch

[edit]

Good work on Bob's article, it was in need of some serious improvement. I just wanted to clarify my edit summary when I removed that note about members of the fake Mac working on Kirwan's solo album. The fake Mac (which evolved into Stretch) was Elmer Gantry, Kirby Gregory, Paul Martinez, John Wilkinson and Craig Collinge. Kirby did work on a Kirwan album, but that was much later, in 1979. Later members of Stretch did work with Kirwan, but none of them was involved with the fake Mac. It's a murky story, and I didn't want you to think I was criticising your work. "Advertisements for Myself"

[edit]

Hi. The article you started in 2008, Advertisements for Myself, contained two statements that were challenged for citations the day after you created it. One pertained to Mailer's yachting cap, and I have added a citation to support it. The other statement was, "Ernest Hemingway, Mailer's idol, denounced the book to fellow acquaintance George Plimpton...". Do you have a source for that sentence? — O'Dea (talk) 11:02, 10 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again. I have your talk page on my watchlist but you haven't acknowledged my question and I keep having to come back every time I see your talk page has been changed, which is a pain in the ass. I would appreciate if you would answer yes or no to my question so I can take monitoring this page off my checklist. Thank you. — O'Dea (talk) 03:40, 24 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Four months after my original request for citation, I have removed the Hemingway material and removed your talk page from my watchlist. A citation needed request was first place in the article in 2008. — O'Dea (talk) 23:01, 6 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. Just letting you know that this page is being nominated for speedy deletion, under the criteria at Template:db-disambig. See also WP:TWODABS. Please contest it if you disagree. Best wishes Boleyn (talk) 07:15, 13 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Great addition to the article on Herbert Lewis Hardwick, but where are the reliable verifiable sources? Please add them as Wiki policy requires it, otherwise someone can come along and "tag" it as unsourced and your addition will be removed. Possibly unfree File:Vasilly Sigarev.jpg

[edit]

A file that you uploaded or altered, File:Vasilly Sigarev.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree files because its copyright status is unclear or disputed. If the file's copyright status cannot be verified, it may be deleted. You may find more information on the file description page. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Union Club of Boston requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a club, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Mootros (talk) 06:37, 13 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The article Bonnie Holiday has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

fails PORNBIO, no RS content

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. biographies of living persons and criminal accusations

[edit]

For a variety of legal reasons, Wikipedia is very cautious about content that amounts to biographies of living persons. In particular, we avoid stating living people are guilty of a crime when they have not been convicted of that crime; please see WP:CRIMINAL. My edits have been merely to keep the article in line with Wikipedia policy. --Nat Gertler (talk) 03:08, 4 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

There are a couple of basic problems that I think you're facing here in the construction of the article. One is that you seem to want to do an article about the scandal, but you are labeling it as an article about a person. There can be articles about events as well, and if there is truly a need for the encyclopedia to cover this concern, it may be better done in those terms.
The other is that, having labeled it as an article about an individual, you are trying to cover two other individuals in it, in about as much depth as the article's supposed subject. If they truly are deserving of coverage as individuals, then it should be in their own articles, rather than using the article on one to be as a platform for the others.
Also, saying someone was a partner with another in a criminal enterprise runs into the same problems as saying they were guilty of a crime, because it basically is. Until they are convicted of a crime, it is not our job to paint them as guilty. --Nat Gertler (talk) 03:40, 4 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from MadmanBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Bill Osco, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://dbpedia.org/page/Mona_the_Virgin_Nymph.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. File permission problem with File:New York Mirror front page.jpeg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:New York Mirror front page.jpeg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Wikipedia's image use policy. Orphaned non-free media (File:New York Mirror front page.jpeg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:New York Mirror front page.jpeg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Werieth (talk) 16:01, 30 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hudson Motor Co.

[edit]

Before you put back in the inflation calculator, please consider what it really shows. The automobile of 1909 is vastly different than one sold today. Just because Wikipedia has an inflation calculator does not mean that it needs to be used in every situation. It is more appropriate when comparing the price of an apple in 1909 to an equivalent apple today. That would help readers know what the relative cost of an identical item in today's dollars. However, in the case of automobiles, the actual product, its manufacture, and the market conditions were completely different over 100 years ago. It is better to explain know how significant the goal of getting the price of the 1909 Hudson to be under $1,000 in relationship to the cost of other automobiles in 1909 - not what the inflation adjusted value of $1,000 from 1909 is worth today. Therefore, a comparison other automobiles on the market in 1909 would provide context for the conditions during the early era of motoring. The same is true of calculating the cost of the optional automatic transmission during a time when the vast majority of cars offered only a manual transmission. The price information provides information only when compared to other what other transmissions were available at the same time, not to the dollars are worth today. Things have changed so mach that today the automatic is standard equipment, and is is almost difficult to find automobiles with manual transmissions. Another example would be the first Compact Disc audio CD players that in 1982 had a retail price of about $900. It is far more informative to compare that price to the other available methods of sound reproduction at the time. Since 1983, the manufacturing technology, market penetration, profit structure, etc. of the CD player has significantly changed. The inflation-adjusted value of a dollar over 30 years is not a very useful comparison to illustrate the market at that time. Thank you! CZmarlin (talk) 16:32, 9 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A question about your username

[edit]

Hi. I'd like to bring to your attention part of Wikipedia's policy on usernames, which says:

Do not edit under a name that is likely to imply that you are (or are related to) a specific, identifiable person, unless it is your real name. If you are using such a name because it is your real name, you should make clear on your userpage that you are not (or are not related to) the well-known person of that name.

If a name is used that implies that the user is (or is related to) a specific, identifiable person, the account may sometimes be blocked as a precaution against damaging impersonation, until proof of identity is provided. (emphasis added)

So:

  • Does your username mean that you are related to Shemp Howard of the Three Stooges? If so, please send an email to info-en@wikimedia.org saying so and provide the volunteers there with proof of your identity.
  • Does your username mean that you're not related to Shemp Howard, but you're someone else with the same name? If so, please note this fact on your user and user talk pages to dispel any wrong impressions other editors may have.
  • Does your username mean that your name isn't "Shemp Howard, Jr." at all? If so, I'm sorry but you'll have to choose another username. You can do this either by re-registering or by requesting a username change. If you want a username change, please go to Wikipedia:Changing username and request the change.

Please note that you're not required to tell us what your real name is. If you'd rather not mention it, the last option would be best. Beyond My Ken (talk) 18:14, 30 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Cut and paste move of Johnny Keyes

[edit]

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Johnny Keyes a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into Johnnie Keyes. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut-and-paste-move repair holding pen. Thank you. • Gene93k (talk) 00:54, 7 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The article Spirit of Seventy Sex has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails NFILM and the GNG. No legitimate assertion of notability. No reliably sourced content. Little substantive content besides partial cast list and release date

IMDB is not a reliable source

[edit]

Hi there. I saw that you recently edited a film-related article and added a citation to the IMDB. I have removed the claim and citation, as the IMDB is not a reliable source. Reliable sources are required to have an editorial department, a history of fact-checking, and to publish corrections when they make a mistake. The IMDB, as a user-generated database, does not qualify. You can often find more reliable data from Box Office Mojo, The Numbers, Box Office, Variety, and The Hollywood Reporter. It is also useful to check other sources listed at WikiProject Film's resource page. If you have any issues or need help, feel free to contact me on my talk page or start a discussion at WikiProject Film. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 21:05, 7 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Ephraim London requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. This article or image appears to be a direct copy from http://articles.latimes.com/1990-06-15/news/mn-41_1_ephraim-london. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Will Elder reference

[edit]

Hi William (The Bill) Blackstone. The Will Elder article has this edit from 2013 in which the only reference given is {{sfn|Groth|1988|p=318}}, but use of the {{sfn}} template is designed to always be accompanied by the {{cite}} template further down, which would give all the details—however, this is missing, so we don't know which Groth (1988) reference book this is. Do you know, please? Prhartcom (talk) 21:23, 22 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Frank Iaconi

[edit]

On 3 October 2013 you created Frank Iaconi and supplied category:1908 births without mentioning that date in the article, let alone referencing it. Do you have any evidence for that date? Because I found this:

  • "Estate of Frank Iaconi, Deceased, Angelo J. Iaconi, Administrator v. Commissioner: Memorandum Findings of Fact and Opinion". United States Tax Court. April 13, 1961 – via LEAGLE. Angelo J. Iaconi is the duly appointed administrator of the estate of Frank Iaconi, deceased, hereinafter referred to as Iaconi. Iaconi died intestate on July 14, 1956, a resident of Worcester, Massachusetts, at the age of 61 years.

I am pretty sure this legal case is about the same Frank Iaconi. If so, he was born in 1895 or late 1894. What say you?—Anomalocaris (talk) 09:32, 9 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
