Hi, and welcome to the Lakers WikiProject! We are a group of (mainly) Lakers fans who help to improve coverage related to the Los Angeles Lakers on Wikipedia.
Looking for somewhere to start? Here is a few suggestions.
- You can check out topics on the main page.
- You can add {{WikiProject Los Angeles Lakers}} to talk pages of Los Angeles Lakers-related articles, and assess them as well.
- Check out the to do list for the WikiProject, and opt to try and complete some of those tasks.
If you have any comments, suggestions, or would like to talk about the project in general, feel free to leave a message on the talk page.

new pages userbox
unfortunately, I no longer have time to patrol new pages. I have gotten myself involved with a few polemic pages and a few nominations for deletions, and fighting the vandalism on the pages on my watchlist takes all the rest of my time. The reminder is there in case some day I feel like checking a few pages. I would also need to install some of those automating tools like Twinkle to accelerate the speedy deletions and the other templates. Doing it by hand is very slow when you are not familiarised with the process. For now, I'm getting used to the deletion process and the warnings to users. --Enric Naval (talk) 20:33, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
- well, a few months is a lot of time :) You are right in that, at this pace, in a few months I will be a seasoned editor, and I'll probably get asked to be an admin :D But that's only if I learn not to lose my cool when arguing about polemical stuff. I still have a lot to learn on that --Enric Naval (talk) 20:40, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
- Aw, come on, nominating articles for deletion is way funnier than creating new articles :). Also, every once on a while I'll find a topic that interests me enough to create a page or to make great efforts to improve it, like I did to Kodiak Bear. I found very interesting to learn about how the bear lives on a artic island isolated form Alaska, the genetical separation from the rest of brown bears, the creation of the natural park, etc. Basically, I'm only interested on a few random topics, and I only know that I am interested when I stumple upon them. Usually, I stalk the talk pages of other editors to watch for interesing developments ^^ When I correct vandalism, I also make sure to check the contribution list of the user, and check one by one of his contributions, and I find interesting things on the process --Enric Naval (talk) 20:55, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Re:AWC
I didn't host it, I volunteered to complete it (but I haven't had time). You can probably tell by their edit count (it would have to be over 1000), and you would have to trust them...Other than that, I can't tell. Malinaccier (talk) 23:32, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Things...
- Editor review page looks good.
- Adminship is decided by consensus. That is generally around 75-80% support.
- You can create the new newsletter page here. jj137 (talk) 00:13, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
- I usually just find them when people post on the main page, change WP:BOSOX/A, or see it on my watchlist/New pages. It can require a bit of effort, but it isn't overall that tough. jj137 (talk) 00:28, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
- I just use mine to deliver the newsletter for WP:SOX. If you need a newsletter for any other project, consult MFC (he runs Newsletterbot which will do any project). jj137 (talk) 00:48, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to make constructive contributions to Wikipedia, at least one of your recent edits, such as the one you made to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/RINET, did not appear to be constructive and has been reverted or removed. Please use the sandbox for any test edits you would like to make, and take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Give it up. The edit history clearly shows what edits were made at what time. Trying to position a "keep" vote at the top and then altering the time stamp on your signature is a useless trick. Taroaldo (talk) 05:11, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
- The above note is reversed. I accept RyRy5's explanation that a good faith mistake had been made. --- Taroaldo (talk) 05:50, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi. Thanks for the note! Some people on IPs do good work here, but many others just like to cause trouble (there's often a good reason why they don't create an account). Thank you for clarifying what happened. --- Taroaldo (talk) 05:37, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
- Hi. It will not count as a warning and it won't affect you during an RfA. If anything, your responses to me in clarifying your mistake would actually help in any RfA. It shows that you take responsibility for your actions and can maintain a cool head. Those are important characteristics for any Admin to have. --- Taroaldo (talk) 06:08, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, I also prefer having friends who can keep a cool head. Makes life easier. Let me know when you're up for RfA. I'm sure I'll be able to put in a good word. --- Taroaldo (talk) 06:24, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Editor Review
Ok, let me see if I can clarify my statement here. If you were to go under RfA now, with only 2 months of experience on the 'Pedia, it would be snowed because most feel 2 months isn't a great amount of experience, whereas if you tried 6 months from now, an RfA from you would stand a better chance of passing. ArcAngel (talk) 22:06, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
- I feel that four months from now (which would put it close to August), it may not pass due to no consensus, whereas in October it would likely pass without much opposition. This is just my experience with RfA's - the more time someone has on WP, the better the chances. ArcAngel (talk) 22:13, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Question
I did edit my first post on the talk page, but then you posted on my talk page if I had any questions. I'll repost it as a new subject and you can tell me if it should be done differently. -- This is a good program you have going on. I have a few questions. Am I able to view subpages or do I just have to know they exist? For example the Adoptee_Tests on my user page, if somebody creates a page under my name will I be able to find out about it? I'm wondering how you set your signature to different font colors while using the four ~'s. I'm done with the test too, but where should I post the answers for that? Axecution (talk) 02:42, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
- Ok I've added my answers to the test. Axecution (talk) 03:07, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
- RyRy, I think it's important that you know that one of the answers that you scored correctly was actually incorrect. Axecution said: "Is it possible to ban someone from editing at wikipedia? Yes, administrators have this ability". You scored that as though it were correct. It is incorrect. Administrators do not have the ability to ban someone from the site. Only Arbcomm, Jimbo, the Foundation, or the community can ban. Administrators can block. I strongly encourage you to run the test key past someone before you score it. I am concerned that you may be giving out incorrect information. I have grave concerns that you may not have been here long enough to engage in adoption. For background, please read WP:BAN. This is an example of why I wish you'd work with the adoption program rather than creating your own. I really must insist that you run your test keys past an administrator or long-term editor. - Philippe | Talk 05:01, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
- RyRy, in response to your comment on my talk page; I'm sorry to have offended you, but stand by my statements. I honestly don't believe you should be testing on statements that you don't understand. You scored it wrong - regardless of whether you planned to check on it later, you still told an adoptee that was a correct statement when it wasn't. I don't mean to seem hostile, but the fact is that you gave incorrect information on a core policy. Block vs Ban comes up in almost every RFA.
- My concern with you adopting has nothing to do with how many edits you have (you clearly qualify there), but with "time in service". I just don't think you know our policies well enough. I'm going to keep an eye on your adoption page in hopes that you'll prove me wrong. If you insist on continuing, I want you to commit to double and triple checking answers. You need to understand the difference between block and ban, and it's critical that you not test on any policies that you don't know inside and out. It's going to take a lot of homework on your part. Adopting is not easy, which is why many people choose to adopt only one person at a time.
- I'm afraid that you're putting a lot of emphasis on edit count, and the community as a whole has said strongly that we really care more about length of time with us and understanding of policies. My advice to you is to forget about edit count for a while. Do some well-rounded (mainspace) work. Improve articles. Step away from the userspace for a while. It will be a serious hinderance when you run for RfA.
- I'm afraid that you're headed for a position where the community may try to intervene. If you continue to give incorrect information, it's possible (I've seen it done) that the community will MFD your adoption program and force you to stop. I'm trying to divert you before it gets there.
- Unfortunately, my role as admin sometimes makes me the bad guy. This is one of those times. You could potentially do a lot of damage to your adoptees by giving them incorrect information. It confuses people, and they can fail RFAs over block vs ban.
- PLEASE take this into account. Find a mentor who can check your answers and look over your lessons before you pass them on. There is still a way to resolve this, but you're going to have to work at it.
- I truly do wish you the best. I'm sorry if you feel I'm being harsh, that's not my intent. My intent is to stop you from a path that will hurt you in the long run with your declared goal. - Philippe | Talk 16:28, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

what's up
with this edit? It seems out of character. Toddst1 (talk) 05:30, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
- This edit does appear to be out of character and I don't understand it. You shouldn't be removing block templates under any circumstances. Removing the template doesn't remove the block anyhow.
- You do seem almost too hungho to adopt users. Helping new users is a good thing, but you have adopted enough for now. You are experienced, so it is appropriate for you to want to share your knowledge with new users. You're trying to be helpful which is a good thing. The comments that are on Todd's talk page are somewhat disturbing. The "Until I became an admin" comment is poorly formed, but I can see how it happened. You apologized and it has been accepted so there's nothing else that you can do. Your explanation makes sense to me. I think its okay for you to be helping newbies with the basic things but you shouldn't be showing them advanced things that you don't completely understnad. You probably wouldn't do that anyhow.
- This thread shows me that you're not ready to run for adminship for at least a several months. You would get snowballed if commenters saw these diffs. Many people are so focused on becoming an admin. I think it's much better for someone to spend their time learning the advanced things first before running. I wasn't even considering becoming an admin when a well-respected admin asked me to run. Wait until well-respected admins are asking you to run. Royalbroil 13:44, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
Sure, that'd be great. However, right now I'm not ready for it to go through all that, and not only because the season summary is incomplete. There's a bunch of other stuff that I'd like to do to the article to get it up there. Ksy92003 (talk) 14:38, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
Re:Typos
My concern is that a number of the "typos" you have "fixed" have been reverted because they was nothing wrong with them. Also, "spoting" should be "spotting". But, anyway, the most important thing is to actually add content to articles. Ignore everything else that goes on for at least six months. It is rare for RFAs to pass without more than a few thousand mainspace edits and less than a year on Wikipedia. Concentrate on enhancing the encyclopedia first, then the rest will follow. Thanks George The Dragon (talk) 19:27, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Actually, I already added the colour scheme from the file I downloaded from Wikipedia, and then uploaded it so I could put it on my talkpage and ask people to improve it/comment on it, and then it was tagged. - yes, so how is the copyright information entered correctly then? I mean I didn't create the image myself since I took it from Wikipedia, but there should be no licensing problems with it... your help is appreciated. Crix (talk) 19:59, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

- yes I understand that. Now I think my biggest question was whether creating a new graphic based on a wikipedia graphic actually makes me the copyright holder (since it seems to be the way people have done this for other graphics). In that case I would just make it GFDL myself... Crix (talk) 20:12, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Well, Back to business. Can you refer some adoptees you can't take to my mentorship program? Nothing444 20:49, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

- That's what I'd like, but we could get warned for WP:NOT social. My advice is go to gmail.com and create one. It wouldn't be prudent to get tagged for WP:NOT social. Just my opinion! ♥Shapiros10WuzHere♥ 20:54, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry if I was a bit pushy. I just don't want to get warned. No hard feelings? :) ♥Shapiros10WuzHere♥ 20:59, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
- Sure. But I will have to take the link off of my talk. ♥Shapiros10WuzHere♥ 21:02, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
- Yes I am!!!! ♥Shapiros10WuzHere♥ 21:06, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Well, you are forgiven. Assume Good Faith. Anyway, I did and replaced the userbox. Now the userbox is saying I completed it. Nothing444 20:53, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

- It'll be better if you do it. Your good with this. Nothing444 20:59, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
Adoption Program
Well, I see the message of Philippe and I concur. Can you give me the diffs of these admins (you said especially admins, it seems to be a crucial point for you) who think that your program is a good idea ? I see that User:Jj137, which is indeed an admin, made positive comments, but it was before this program went really on. Maybe we should bring the matter to the community. I have created an adoption program to help teach my adoptees. I give out tests that are graded and looked over twice and a classroom so my teachers can help teach students. I would like many peoples opinions on this.--RyRy5 talk 18:06, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
- You've only been on Wiki for a month and you have an adoption program? Am I missing something? George The Dragon (talk) 18:07, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
- Well, I do have 3300+ edits, and I'm trying to edit more on the mainspace more. Any comments?--RyRy5 talk 18:15, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
- I think that this is ridiculous. You are not at all an experienced user, you have only 312 edits in mainspace, only one page move. Do you know the fair use policy, the naming conventions, the banning policy ? etc. I see that you want to become an admin when you'll have over 5000 edits, well, you should look closer at recent RFAs. By the way, some people are offended nowadays because some users think that Wikipedia is just another (curious) facebook, myspace, or RPG ... You should take this into account too. I don't mean to be offending either, I see that you encourage people to give their opinion (the review etc), I just give mine. Something is wrong too, why have you chosen this page to post your adoption program ? It's meant to be a user talk page (cf the corresponding policies/guidelines), it's not the community bulletin board. Back to the adoption program, I think that you should wait several months before working on this. If you wish, we can continue this discussion, somewhere else. CenariumTalk 18:55, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
- Cenarium raises very valid points above. What is it you (RyRy5) are hoping to achieve here? And what do pages such as [1] and [2] have to do with improving the encyclopedia? Most importantly, the following sort of edits appear to have more to do with inflating edit count than anything else: [3], [4], [5], [6], [7]. George The Dragon (talk) 19:07, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
- It wasn't my idea, there is a nerd cabal that has really nothing to do. The cool cabal is soppused to keep people's cool head or else they will never stop vandalism. I don't feel comortable here so I would like to stop the conversation. If that's OK.--RyRy5 talk 19:13, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
- Who said the nerd cabal has nothing to do? :O - DiligentTerrier and friends 20:09, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
- While I don't care about some pleasant humor (the BRC is quite acceptable), the sudden recent influx of cabals, most of them created by what I suspect are teenage editors, is completely unnecessary. The adoption is also premature. I don't care about the so-called "edit-count pumping" edits, though; minor edits are plenty useful.

- Perhaps you're not a teenager, but many of the cabal creators definitely are. Also, in case anyone reading this feels like accusing me of ageism, please be aware that I'm definitely am not ageist. Actually, I'm rather biased the other way, as I'm twelve years of age myself. Nousernamesleftcopper, not wood 00:55, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
- Well, I classify all ages between ten and nineteen inclusive as teenage years, but this discussion is irrelevant. You're doing good work for an eleven year old. Keep it up. Nousernamesleftcopper, not wood 01:01, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
Hey, hey, no age-bashing, k? Editor age hardly matters; we've got plenty of successful users here (eg. User:Ilyanep was a crat at what, 14?) who are in their teens. Honestly, I think there's a lack of AGF here, though; I'd give you all cookies to cheer you up but that'd probably be seen as counter-productive. Instead, let's step back and look at this from another viewpoint.
RyRy comes, and, even though he's not very experienced, offers to help out other users. All I see here is his good faith; I'm not sure why you guys jumped on him and started, to be frank, abusing him. Wikipedia isn't the place for this. Instead of telling him he doesn't know anything, why not help him? Maybe give him some advice on important policies and gently tell him that he should probably wait a bit longer until he seeks adminship or mass-adopts users? Those are all preferable alternatives to this interrogative BITE-y behaviour.
That's just my $0.02, of course, but still, let's keep it cool. Cheers, Master of Puppets Call me MoP! :) 02:06, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry if I was a bit of a biter, Ry. I didn't intend for it to sound abusive or anything. I don't think I was age-bashing, though. Hey, together my two cents and yours make four. If we continue like this, we can buy some penny candy! Nousernamesleftcopper, not wood 02:48, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

mentorship program
Well, I'm cancelling the program for now. I guess I'll have to start smaller. And I know just the place. I'll work at your classroom and achieve the rank of Vice Principal. Then somehow I'll prove myself worthy of being an adopter. So, where do I start to achieve the rank of Vice Prinicpal on your classroom? Nothing444 00:59, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Badly wounded?
If George the Dragon and Cenarium are right, and you are "not at all an experienced" user, and only a month old on Wiki (a newcomer), then I think you've been bitten pretty badly. Also, how many Wikipedia do think there are under 13 (thirteen because of teen)? Basketball110 01:35, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
- About the age thing or the badly wounded thing? Nonetheless, I'll answer both. The age: I was wondering about the majority of users... adult, teenager, or less (depending on who thinks what 'bout what a teen is). The wounded thing: I think you are rather experienced (you could use more experience, though), don't get me wrong. What those two said, if true, should be considered a (TOUGH, REALLY ROUGH bite) bite. Also, can I become a vice-principle? Basketball110 01:46, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
- Excuse me? Basketball110 02:07, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Basketball110 has given you a fresh pie! Pies promote WikiLove and hopefully this one has made your day a little better. Spread the WikiLove by giving someone else a piping hot pie, whether it be someone you have had disagreements with in the past or a good friend. Bon appetit!
Spread the tastiness of pies by adding {{subst:GivePie}} to their talk page with a friendly message.

Talk page format
Hey there! I was just wondering if I may drop a tiny suggestion; could you make your talk page left-aligned, by any chance? The center-aligned format makes it a bit harder to track people's comments when you're trying to read through sections. You don't have to change it, of course. Cheers, Master of Puppets Call me MoP! :) 02:08, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
