Hi there. The way you laid out your speedy deletion request, it looked as though you wanted the page to be moved to This is the proper name for the cuisine of the Senegalese people.. I assume that this was actually the reason, and that consequently you wanted Senegalese cuisine, not Senegali cuisine, to be the article's name, but for that, why delete anything? You just need to start a discussion on the current article's talk page, establish consensus, and then use the move function (which automatically overwrites redirect pages). It Is Me Here t / c 11:20, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

I am the one who moved it in the first place. I moved it to the wrong name. --Jeremy ( Blah blah...) 11:23, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

I'm curious about this edit here. Could you point me to this discussion you mention? Thanks. -Andrew c [talk] 17:39, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

Re:the 3RR report

Actually, I think you should've raised the issue to ANI, not the current place. I simply stated that two other editors (not including me) are supporting his edits. p.s Why did not you notify him of the report?--Caspian blue 02:19, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

Again, I must disagree with your reporting there and you seem to misunderstand my message here. You don't even need to persuade me for your stance.--Caspian blue 03:04, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

I so don't have time to keep up with all of those items, someone from the Wine Project should be working on that. You and I do enough stuff already.--Chef Tanner (talk) 21:13, 6 January 2009 (UTC)

Deletion

I've restored Portal:Drink/Selected article, per request. I'm not quite sure why it showed up as a user-requested deletion, though it may have been an odd transclusion. I've doublechecked the other Portal pages that you requested to be deleted, and they seem to be okay, but if there's anything else you'd like restored, please let me know.  :) --Elonka 05:24, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

Food portal

You rock, I love the use of the random portal generator for the DYK, I've got some time I'm going to try and get some work done on the wine portal. I don't know how you have been finding the time for everything you have been doing.--Chef Tanner (talk) 17:18, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Its all copy and paste crap. All I do is take the format of one page, copy it into notepad, do a simple substitution with CTRL-H, and re-paste it back into my page of choice. I can setup a whole "selected foo" sub-page with 20 article templates in about 15 minutes.
That's how I got it to the point it was before, same thing I did for the WikiProject food and drink a while back. It still takes a lot of time. I'm going to be in Boston Feb. 6-9 at the American Culinary Federation Northeast conference, we should get together for a drink if you are free.--Chef Tanner (talk) 00:19, 11 January 2009 (UTC)

Country adjectivals in cuisine article titles

Hi.

A little bird (named Zlerman) told me that you've been handling the renaming of country "cuisine of" articles to their respective adjectival forms (Moldovan cuisine, etc.)

Cool. Nice job.

I did some work on these a month or two ago, because they hook directly into the country outlines (part of Wikipedia's outline of knowledge) which Zlerman, I, and a team of editors have been working on since last spring.

While I was renaming them, I created a little tool to help out with the task, that you may find helpful....

Here's a list of "Cuisine of" links to help keep track of the moves and redirects for all the countries of the world:

User:The Transhumanist/Cuisine by country list.

I hope you find it useful. (Either way, please let me know).

Have fun.  ;)

I look forward to your reply (on my talk page).

Hi Jeremy. Thanks for the changes you made to this page. I'll pull some of them back, but most of them seem fine. --Geronimo20 (talk) 12:06, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

Cuisine of Dominica

Quite frankly, I think you have misrepresented the case with your AfD request. On rereading your argument, I see that you are not suggesting deletion: you are basically suggesting a redirect. Instead of an independent, stand-alone article, you think we should have a cuisine section within Dominica. Isn't that different from AfD? Isn't this basically a merge proposal? Although I voted against deletion, I would have absolutely no problem with recasting "cuisine of Dominica" as a section within the country article. Perhaps you should consider reformulating your request? Best, --Zlerman (talk) 13:03, 19 January 2009 (UTC)

That's looking great! I had considered types of beer, but that way lies madness. The template will end up with a long meaningless list of every sort of beer served at the pub, and some people will reduce the list, and others will add to it, and before you know where you are you have an edit war, or a long template filled with a list of styles of beer that nobody cares about or will read. If the pub is known for serving a particular beer, that will come out in the article. So what I am saying is remove the beerstyle section and salt the earth! Thanks SilkTork *YES! 11:58, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Confectioner's glaze

Hi Jerem43. I noticed your edits concerning confectioner's glaze/pharmaceutical glaze. However, it turns out that they are the same thing; the only difference is the use (the name "pharmaceutical glaze" is for pharmaceuticals, whereas the name "confectioner's glaze" is for confections). I have added some citations on Pharmaceutical glaze that should clear this up. -kotra (talk) 23:30, 2 February 2009 (UTC)

Taco Bell

Hi Jerem,

sorry if this is in the wrong place. Are you still involved with the Taco Bell article? There are some changes which have been suggested (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Taco_Bell#WE_ARE_NOT_A_PRICING_GUIDE) about removing the Taco Bell Value Menus/discontinued products and their pricing from the main article. I suggested that perhaps a separate product page such as the one for Burger King's products could be created so as to not just delete the contributed info. What do you think? Toni S. Doc pages for random portal components

I'm looking at your latest edits and wondering if you've made a mistake or not as you seem to have given instructions and usage examples for using box header instead of the templates related to the docpages? Nanonic (talk) 03:54, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Ah, what I mean is that the example already present on Template:Random portal component/doc was there to show a static output of the box. You've expanded this (diff) to act as an example of the coding required to get it working. Showing this code as an example seems odd as all it will produce is another static box, when I saw the example heading I was expecting to see a breakdown of {{Random portal component}} and it's variables. Sorry if that was unclear. Nanonic (talk) 04:02, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Hi. I'm wondering why you tagged Template:Browsebar and Template:Portals‎ as esoteric? Thanks. (reply here) -- Quiddity (talk) 19:27, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Deletions

Are you suggesting that the person mentioned in my edit was not rumored to be responsible for the mass marketing and popularization of gel-type beverages in the city of Milwaukee, WI? I thought this was an interesting piece of local trivia and as a resident of Milwaukee felt compelled to disseminate. And secondly, is it you that is the proprieter of this article, and so therefore have all rights reserved to delete any subsequent editions . . .?

RadioGnomeInvisible (talk) 22:10, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

It is an uncited, unsubstantiated fact that does not warrant inclusion. Please read the policies WP:Note, WP:RS and WP:V to find out on how to properly add and cite such entries. Also, please read up on WP:Trivia and WP:NOT before accusing another editor of WP:OWN. --Jeremy ( Blah blah...) 22:18, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
Just my two cents as an uninvolved editor: The statement may very well be true, but as it was, readers had no way of verifying it as true. Therefore, the statement needed to be accompanied by some sort of reliable source. For this reason, I would probably have also removed it until a reliable source was given. -kotra (talk) 22:23, 11 February 2009 (UTC)

Portal problems

Did a recent change you made to the {{Random portal component with nominate}} cause the screw up with three sections that use the template in each of two portals portal, Portal:Ireland and Portal:Philately, that I maintain? ww2censor (talk) 06:24, 18 February 2009 (UTC)

I have made no changes to the template, only added documentation and cataloged them. I would not even know where to begin to edit those templates. --Jeremy ( Blah blah...) 06:15, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
oops. Very odd because that is the only template that is being affected and the only recent changes have been yours on Jan 9 and Feb 5 and I know it was working properly a few weeks ago. I presume you can see the problem with the random components showing in the portal page as redlinks. Very few other editors of this template seem to be active. Who can I ask? Cuisine of Assam

Could you please move Assamese cuisine to Cuisine of Assam. "Assamese" does not automatically mean everyone from Assam. It is the name of a language, one of many spoken in Assam and Assamese cuisine is not the same thing as Cuisine of Assam.

Thanks,
Chaipau (talk) 15:43, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

Hello Chaipau,
When we are dealing with national/regional/ethnic subjects, such as ethnicity or cuisines, that that are not confined to a well defined geographic area the Wikipedia naming convention is Xxx cuisine. This is per the caveats section of the Wikipedia:Naming conventions (country-specific topics) policy. Your reasoning for requesting the change is actually why this is done, since there are numerous ethnic groups that are in the area of Assam and I am sure that those who consider themselves Assamese are found elsewhere in India the Assamese cuisine name is appropriate. If there is a majority ethnic group in the region that identifies itself by another name, their cuisine should have its own article that is linked to from the Assamese cuisine article per summary style guidelines.
I hope this helps you and answers any questions. --Jeremy (blah blah) 16:59, 14 March 2009 (UTC)

Unfortunately, this naming convention does not apply to the case in Assam. First, Assam is not a country, but s state/province. The formats and conventions of Wikipedia could have limitation when it comes to the variety of topics under consideration here, and that there should be some leeway on a case-by-case basis. And Cuisine of Assam is an appropriate one where a leeway is necessary. I may discuss this at more length if you need, but I do feel strongly that the topic should not be made to conform to a convention of Wikipedia at the cost of a mis-presentation.

Thanks, Chaipau (talk) 00:54, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

A state is a region, therefore this is a regional cuisine. However, the formatting also follows all of the other regions of India. --Jeremy (blah blah) 03:19, 15 March 2009 (UTC)
I second Jerem4's opinion on this (I'm very impressed at the logical and kindly written rationale by the way). Please see articles of other regional cuisine of other countries; For examples, Aragonese cuisine and Catalan cuisine; Aragon has a lot of meanings including several regions of several countries (see; Aragon (disambiguation)). However when it comes to "regional cuisine", the term "cuisine" is only added to regions or states with "developed culinary techniques and tradition, so "Aragonese cuisine only refers to the "cuisine of Aragon, Spain" with history of the former same named kingdom. On the other hand, Catalan also refers to Catalan language just like Assam, as well as to the region of Catalonia, Catalan people, the former state and so forth. However, the article is not named "Cuisine of Catalonia". If you wish to change the title against our naming convention on cuisine related articles, you need to open a discussion and get a consensus. However, because your wish may result in other cases for naming titles of other regional cuisines, so you have to very cautious of the dispute resolving process.--Caspian blue 04:20, 15 March 2009 (UTC)

Hi Jeremy. I'm tidying up and reorganising WP Beer. There are some ideas I'm going to be raising and discussing with the members. Part of the reorganising involves restructuring the main page to highlight what we do, and remove stuff that we don't do (or don't pay attention to!). And to make clear which areas of Beer come under which strand. The beer topic is only partly covered by Food and Drink, so it is appropriate that we remove the appearance that we are totally a sub-project of Food and Drink. A main strand, for example, is the business aspect of breweries for which we come under Organizations. I took a look at the WP Organisations page, and I'm taking ideas from that on how to restructure the Beer page. There are various matters that I'll be taking to the membership to discuss. I'd like to be able to show them the sort of page I'll be recommending. I'd appreciate it if you left the Beer main page alone for a while to allow me to structure it. I just went to it this morning to add Alerts, and I saw that you had restored the side panel which is mainly Food and Drink focused. I had extracted the main elements of the side panel and started to organise them into the page in order. If what I am attempting to do doesn't work, or doesn't get the approval of the other members, then so be it. But I'd like a chance at reorganising things first. I think Beer has much to gain from a relationship with Food and Drink - and you in particular have a lot of energy and knowledge that I'd like us to tap into. In fact, part of my thinking the other day, was as Beer has grown very quiet recently, that aspects of the topic could be more firmly attached to related projects as TaskForces. So that Breweries could become a TaskForce of organizations and Beer a TaskForce of Food and Drink. Certainly, the days when the talkpage was buzzing, and I could get a strong response to calls for discussion, have long gone! However, before going down that route, I thought I'd have a solid go at jazzing things up. As you are better at designing and altering pages than me, would you please put the page back to my last revision, and add {{ArticleAlertbotSubscription}} to a section named Article alerts. Regards SilkTork *YES! 12:32, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

I like the layout of Wikipedia:WikiProject Companies. I may try blending bits of that into the Beer page. SilkTork *YES! 15:55, 20 March 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for some of the tidying you have done. I think the page is making progress, and is now easier to navigate. SilkTork *YES! 23:43, 20 March 2009 (UTC)

"To do" vs. "Tasks"

I'm not sure what the "To do" bit is about. It links to this page: Wikipedia:Community portal/Opentask, which is not related to the Beer project. If we are supposed to manually create and insert things for people "to do" - what difference is that from "tasks"? SilkTork *YES! 23:36, 21 March 2009 (UTC)

About the difference:

  • Tasks list is for repetitive items that need doing continuously, such as rating articles, destubification etc
  • To do list is for specific one-time projects plans, such as redoing the home page or an improvement drive for a particular article
  • Current list is for "To Do" items that are being worked on by the community currently

The "to do" link does not point to the location you are speaking of, I believe you are mistaken in that. The community forum points to the Food & Drink community platform that was established last year.

--Jeremy (blah blah) 02:02, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

When I click on "Here are some tasks you can do:" it does take me to Wikipedia:Community portal/Opentask.
Part of the intention with this cleanup of the project page is to remove elements that can become (or already are) out of date, serve no immediate purpose, or are empty. Beer is not so busy that a suggestion for attention cannot be made on the talkpage, where others if they wish can then respond. If the project became so active that we had a number of one-off tasks, and where people were motivated to manually check on progress and maintain the to do list, then we could consider putting it back, but for the moment it's simply sitting there doing nothing. Well - it is doing something - it is saying that this project has nothing to do! If there are redundant, empty or out of date items on a project page it gives a bad appearance. When editing around Wikipedia I drop in on various projects to look for advice. I look at activity on the talkpage, but more especially I look at how well kept the main project page is. If a project page contains out of date material, then I have little confidence that I will get a quick or meaningful response.
What would be a reason, under the current circumstances, for having a To Do list on the project page which both reveals we have nothing to do, and which points to tasks away from the Beer project (thus taking potential members away from helping with beer matters)? SilkTork *YES! 08:35, 22 March 2009 (UTC)

If something was merged, the original article history needs to be retained for attribution purposes, so deleting it because someone disagrees with the merge is a bad idea. Perhaps you can go to the new Wikipedia:Mergers for discussion for wider input, but unless new sources come to light or unless a clear reason is provided, it is safe to ignore it (just don't editwar over it). - Mgm|(talk) 11:04, 31 March 2009 (UTC)

Hey

I wanted to convey to you that our discussion (and the other subsequent and seemingly ongoing discussions) on Talk:Daybreak regarding the subtleties and pitfalls of original research and synthesis have turned out to be extremely valuable. We may not have all gone about it the right way, but as it stands, the lessons learned from that discussion have given me a renewed perspective on editing. As I have been perusing Wikipedia for the past month or so, I have seen a ton of instances of uncited original research/synthesis that I had simply overlooked in the past. It wasn't a waste of my time and I wanted you to feel as though it wasn't a waste of your time either. IRelayer (talk) 22:49, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

If you want some work moving userboxes around, you could find non-encyclopedic userboxen in templatespace and bring them into userspace. See WP:UBM for more on this. –xeno talk 03:55, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
There is no consensus to migrate userboxen into templatespace. You should not be moving stuff out of other user's space. –xeno talk 03:58, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
It was agreed upon many moons ago that anything that isn't of strict encyclopedic value, something like {{User en}}, for example, should be moved into the userspace. These beverage-preference userboxen clearly fall under "What wikipedia is not" and therefore they belong in userspace, where requirements are more lax. While strict adherance has lapsed, moving stuff wholesale back into templatespace is a bad idea. Feel free to confirm this at WP:VPP. –xeno talk 04:08, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
  • I've already reverted all your pagemoves. Please seek further input before another mass migration of userboxen back into templatespace. –xeno talk 04:09, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
Oh my, I see this has been going on for some time. What I should say is, I've reverted all of your pagemoves from this evening. If you don't make a thread, I will shortly because This is madness! (I kid, but you really ought seek counsel on this. You're going to ignite the userbox wars again!) –xeno talk 04:16, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
I didn't realize this campaign had been going on for so long. I've made a thread: Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)#On userboxes meandering back into templatespace and won't revert any more of your moves, but I would also ask that you don't perform any more until it's settled. –xeno talk 04:20, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
  • I can't say I blame you, and, to be honest, it would be nice if we cuold just use template space for whatever we want. But things get crowded and we had to draw the line somwhere. If users are inactive, you could consider migrating the userboxes to a subspace of User:UBX, but to be honest on these things it doesn't really matter where they lie as long as people can find them. And you have to think about all the work you are creating if the tranclusions need to be fixed... –xeno talk 04:30, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
  • I just want to make it known that I appreciate that you are trying to cleanup the userbox galleries... I'm a fellow userbox fan myself. =) But I'm fairly certain we still want them (mostly) in userspace. –xeno talk 04:53, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
  • It seems like a lot of busywork, and I would still advise against moving stuff from other's userspace (unless they've been inactive, say, 2 years or something) but as long as they aren't going back into templatespace it probably wouldn't be a problem. –xeno talk 06:12, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
To be perfectly honest, I don't think it should be done for existing userboxes with many transclusions. They're already in place on many userpages, so we would need to leave redirects behind, or update transclusions. Either way it's undesirable... –xeno talk 06:19, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
For example User:UBX/Alcohol-0 alone has over 800 transclusions. It really makes more sense for these userboxes already in userspace to stay put. ( I doubt we'll get our own namespace for userboxes, either ). You'll notice from Wikipedia:Userboxes/Food that 90% of the userboxes are already in userspace. It makes more sense to swim downstream =) If you like, you could adopt the userboxes still straggling in Template space. I would be happy to lend a hand with my bot to retarget the uses so the redirect from templatespace can be deleted. –xeno talk 07:05, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
  • By the way, as far as the "Food" username, you would need to go to WP:USURP. Just remember that only you can edit with the account (i.e. it can't be a shared WikiProject account). –xeno talk 07:13, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
  • Don't worry - I only moved the pages back into userspace; I didn't change any of the edits you made to them. As far as your suggestion, I would say you should give users at least a year moving stuff about in their userspace. Everything else as proposed looks fine to me, and I'd be happy to run the bot. As far as WP:AWB, you can see the manual at WP:AWB/MAN and see also Wikipedia:AutoWikiBrowser/Find and replace. Basically you have it make a list (i.e. "What transcludes page (all NS)": Template:User dietcaffienefreepepsi), then configure what changes you want AWB to make upon those items, (i.e. Find & replace {{User dietcaffienefreepepsi}} with {{User:UBX/Dietcaffienefreepepsi)) then "Start" it and it will show you the changes it is making and you approve them by clicking save. –xeno talk 17:38, 19 April 2009 (UTC)
By the way, I moved the VPP discussion to Wikipedia talk:Userboxes#On userboxes meandering back into templatespace, and some other users have provided insight. I also made some clarifications to the guideline, let me know if that would've helped explain the whole userspace vs. templatespace issue. –xeno talk 17:41, 19 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi. I just wanted to alert you to the recent improvements that FredTheBarCat (talk) has made in the WP:MIX article area. You're more actively editing in that area right now than I am, and I thought maybe you had something that he could help with if he has the time and editing skills/experience to help you. It's a great place to learn the Wikipedia ropes. I know from experience! :-) TTYL. --Willscrlt (→“¡¿Talk?!”) 11:31, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

TfD nomination of Template:Infobox McDonald's

Template:Infobox McDonald's has been nominated for deletion. You are invited to comment on the discussion at the template's entry on the Templates for Deletion page. Thank you. ViperSnake151  Talk  02:58, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

On a related note, I don't mean to put untrue words in your mouth, so I want to point out something I wrote mentioning you on ViperSnake's talk page. Have a good weekend! --Willscrlt (→“¡¿Talk?!”) 17:31, 25 April 2009 (UTC)

Documentation for my userboxes and other templates

Hi Jerem. Please do not move my template documentation to subpages. I know that is the accepted standard, but since I transwiki them to other wikis, it makes twice as much work to replicate all the subpages and keep everything synched up. Further more, these are not frequently edited or highly transcluded templates; they are not protected or semi-protected, thus anyone can edit the main template; so there is no benefit to splitting the docs into subpages. The other changes are great, and appreciated. But I am going to merge the docs back into the main template pages for easier maintainability. Thanks! --Willscrlt (→“¡¿Talk?!”) 05:01, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
