Usage of free pictures in articles

[edit]

Well, if you look at the pictures in most actor's articles, they are from appearances at events and so forth, not screen caps from films. That's because the film is copyrighted (non-free). Looking at the picture on Dev Anand now, even it may have problems, but the one you put up was even worse. Its tricky, which is why some actors don't have pictures at all yet. If you read some of WP policies, you will begin to see that this is not an easy topic. Here is a good place to start: Wikipedia:Image use policy. Re:Adding Hindi/Urdu scripts to articles

[edit]

Hello Fireblazex3! I saw your message and I'm glad that you're working on film articles. From looking at your talk page, it seems that you're working on the article for Tere Ghar Ke Samne. Here are the appropriate scripts for that film: Hindi: तेरे घर के सामने and Urdu: تیرے گھر کے سامنے. I hope this helps. With regards, AnupamTalk 00:21, 4 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

WikiProject India Tag & Assess 2012 Contest

[edit]

Hello friends, we are a number of editors from WikiProject India have got together to assess the many thousands of articles under the stewardship of the project, and we'd love to have you, a fellow member, join us. These articles require assessment, that is, the addition of a WikiProject template to the talk page of an article, assessing it for quality and importance and adding a few extra parameters to it.

As of March 11, 2012, 07:00 UTC, WikiProject India has 95,998 articles under its stewardship. Of these 13,980 articles are completely unassessed (both for class and importance) and another 42,415 articles are unassessed for importance only. Accordingly, a Tag & Assess 2012 drive-cum-contest has begun from March 01, 2012 to last till May 31, 2012.

If you are new to assessment, you can learn the minimum about how to evaluate from Part One of the Assessment Guide. Part Two of the Guide will help you learn to employ the full functionality of the talk page template, should you choose to do so.

You can sign up on the Tag & Assess page. There are a number of awards to be given in recognition of your efforts. Come & join us to take part in this exciting new venture. You'll learn more about India in this way.

I saw your question at the help desk about copyright issues. I see that TEB728 responded, and it may be good advice, but I do know that copyright issues are very tricky. The copyright experts hang out at Media copyright questions, and it might be worth asking there, just as a double check on the answer.

Thanks in advance for your contributions.--SPhilbrick(Talk) 13:18, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I just checked, and I see that TEB728 is a regular on that board, so is probably one of the experts, so maybe you can just save the link for a future question.--SPhilbrick(Talk) 13:20, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the link! You're actually the first person to do such a kind thing for me. Thank you! :) Fireblazex3 (talk) 13:28, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

RE:Assessment

[edit]

Hi, Thanks for taking part in Tag and Assess 2012. I noticed one of your assessments [1] wherein you marked a cinema house as mid importance. Kindly note that from the entire project (India) point of view, a cinema house is relatively low in importance. What you may want to do is give higher importance under the cinema task-force or WP Mumbai. Cheers, Around The Globeसत्यमेव जयते 07:30, 18 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, silly me! I had marked it wrongly. Thanks for correcting me! Fireblazex3 (talk) 07:47, 18 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Welcome to Tag and Assess 2012. Thanks a lot for your contributions. Please add importance to the daughter projects as well (ex. |goa-importance=low). Wish you a happy stay in the project.Ssriram mt (talk) 01:37, 21 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, I appreciate it! I'll try to add the daughter projects, but I'm not really sure for some, since all I know is old Hindi films, especially Dev Anand ones, hehe! ^_^ Fireblazex3 (talk) 07:09, 24 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. When you recently edited Bollywood films of 1963, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Nishi (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

TGKS

Translations and scripts are not permitted anymore in all articles under WP:INDIA. See this. It contains a detailed account of the cause and the consensus. With regards, Secret of success 13:10, 9 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

They said that it will be better spent writing a one-line stub in the native language Wiki, but what about English translations? And thank you for the quick reply. Fireblazex3 (talk) 13:13, 9 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
"All other choices do not meet a level of consensus to pass". English translation was one of the sub-sections, hence it applies to that too. Secret of success 13:56, 9 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I do not see any consensus on translation. There is some hint of a consensus on not using Indic scripts, and using transliteration. If an Indian movie has an official English name (such as Song of the Little Road for Pather Panchali) obviously it would be given,
For movies which we are not sure about official English translation, there is no harm on giving the literal meaning. Moreover, I do not see any consensus on that issue in the RfC link that you provided. Regards.--Dwaipayan (talk) 15:26, 10 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I think it'll help if we put the English translations too. Moreover, it's going to be harder for me to get the translations for Hindi and Urdu. I don't know either language, so I can't write a one line stub in the native language Wiki. You can see above - I asked someone else for the translation. Fireblazex3 (talk) 05:34, 11 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
You might want to consider getting it clarified from DeltaQuad. But please do not add it back without doing so. Regards, Secret of success 06:07, 11 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Will do. Thank you. :) Fireblazex3 (talk) 06:15, 11 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Clarified here. Translations and scripts must be removed and replaced with IPA. Secret of success 06:27, 17 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
