Anna Tambour

[edit]

Why are you removing this article from Category:Women science writers but not the other gendered categories? Just trying to understand, thanks. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 00:58, 19 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry I did it wrong. Was trying to remove all these changes and revert all gendered categories back to ungendered. Can you please do that?User:FalinquinFalinquin (talk) 01:07, 19 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I can, but may I ask why, please? The categories are there as part of a broader sweep by WikiProject Women writers. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 01:14, 19 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for taking all this trouble. I didn't know if you would revert so I just did manually. I am Anna Tambour and object to being classified as a 'woman' anything as much as I do any other broad presupposing classification. Also, it is obvious from my name that I am a woman.

I'll leave it for now, but I can't promise it will remain that way. And I'd like to take the issue for broader discussion to the WikiProject talk page - I'll let you know when I do so that you can participate, if you would like. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 01:23, 19 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. There are many aspects that make up each person. I would let it be unless all people are categorised by their sex. I am tempted to change mine to 'Can't reach upper shelves Satirist' as well as 'Short-sighted Science Writer', both aspects of my existence being much more something that is able to be understood as truly defining than 'woman' which encompasses half the human population, with all the variance of human personalities and opportunities.User:Falinquin

Discussion is here - please take a look. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 04:35, 19 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Ach, I can't just bow out without saying that the line "The free encyclopedia that anyone can edit" needs editing if what you really mean is, some. Your project says "This page is within the scope of WikiProject Women writers, a collaborative effort to improve the coverage of women writers on Wikipedia." However, improving the coverage of women writers, in my opinion, is vastly more improved by calling us 'writers' than by putting us in what in other cultures would be called purdah. Separating in the name of lifting up still separates. Anyone who doesn't want to read female writers can so much more easily avoid even knowing they exist when there's no common listing. And since I'm at it, as a writer, 'woman' used as an adjective irritates my editor's finger. If you must, 'Female writer'. And finally, I'm not surprised if I'm the only person who has objected to this classification. Discussing anything with editors of Wiki is both scary and offputting to so many that it's no wonder that the 'Wiki community' isn't thriving with new life. User:Falinquin

Signing posts on talk pages

[edit]

Information icon Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button ( or ) located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

I notice that in three recent posts, you signed using {{U|Falinquin}}. Not only does this not add a timestamp, it also goes against WP:SIG#NT.

Thank you. --Redrose64 (talk) 09:17, 27 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I tried to do it right, but didn't believe that adding four tildes would do it. So I'll add four tildes now in signing this Falinquin (talk) 20:13, 27 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
