AfD nomination of Everest Catholic High School

[edit]

I have nominated Everest Catholic High School, an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Everest Catholic High School. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Damiens.rf 17:17, 24 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've just had to take a meat-ax to this because the "article" was mostly promotional language apparently taken from the school's website or other promotional material, and massively violative of WP:NPOV, WP:RS and WP:V. There seems to have been some serious COI involvement. Could you help to rebuild it again? The article title, incidentally, is now Everest Academy and High School. --Orange Mike | Talk 15:42, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

develops the whole child

[edit]

Hi, EagleFan. I hope you understand that Reuters article is not a source for the claim that "Girls and Boys learn different", and that believing that some school "develops the whole child" is a strong point point of view. And also, the Archdiocese's website should be considered a primary source on this case.

Regardless of the result of the afd, that article would benefit from sources for the claims that they WILL use a gender specific approach (this should be easy) and that their WILL use this or that educational method.

But we can't simply pretend the school already exists and is already working.

I hope you understand. --Damiens.rf 17:54, 25 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Millersport High School

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Millersport High School, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? FelisLeoTalk! 09:00, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on St. Mary's High School (Stockton, California), by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because St. Mary's High School (Stockton, California) is blatant advertising for a company, product, group, service or person that would require a substantial rewrite in order to become an encyclopedia article.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting St. Mary's High School (Stockton, California), please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself. An invitation to join WikiProject Ohio

[edit]

Hi EagleFan — I just wanted to let you know that I added an infobox to the OHSAA, but that I took out all of the past state champions of each sport. The reason I did this is because the OHSAA article was 90 kilobytes, i.e. way too large for a single article on Wikipedia, and I thought you might be interested in making a new page titled something like "List of all-time OHSAA state champions" or something like that. If you make all of the results into its own article, it will be smaller and more suitable for WP. Plus, it's an easy remedy: all it would take is a "Main article: ..." tag on the current OHSAA page and people will get to where they need to go (if they're looking for past results). Anyway have a good day and think about breaking it up into its own page. -Jrcla2 (talk)(contribs) 03:52, 13 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Further information: Ohio High School Athletic Association

[edit]

I am scratching my head about these additions you are making. Some of them seem ok, I guess, but on other pages, for example Reynoldsburg_High_School_(Ohio), I mean there is nothing there except one state championship and above that (should be below, no), taking up more text is "Further information: Ohio High School Athletic Association" Lucas20 (talk) 23:57, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No doubt that article needs to be filled out. Must not be many wikipedians from Reynoldsburg interested in editing...EagleFan (talk) 23:58, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It's almost like you're hijacking the article, though, I mean if its not notable enough to write about the school generally, who cares about the random state championship that they won some time ago Lucas20 (talk) 00:01, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It is notable to write about, just a lack of editors to do so. Also, I don't see a championship as random regardless if 1 or 20 years ago.EagleFan (talk) 00:03, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure that's necessary, but it think it fits better into some of these HS articles if it is less obtrusive, that's all. Why did you erase the names of prior principals? This list is given for all place and school articles (mayors for places).Student7 (talk) 03:01, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I find information like past principals, current faculty, or class offerings are not encyclopedic and I sometimes delete that when I see them (especially when I'm in a grumpy mood ;) ). Did not mean to step on your toes, you do a lot of great work on the Catholic schools and Diocese. EagleFan (talk) 13:16, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't automatically revert them because I knew you had a good reason. I confess they do not look that great but seem to be used universally in place articles. I am not adverse to discussing this though it does involve a lot more that just us two. If you would like to find a forum for a discussion, I would like to participate. In the meantime, I will replace the principals since you seem to concur, however reluctantly. Regards. Student7 (talk) 03:36, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I still don't see how they are encyclopedic and I do not see the information on other school pages. I do not equate Mayor to Principal anyway. Mayors are elected positions, Principal is a hired position. EagleFan (talk) 17:57, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hiya EagleFan,

I just noticed some changes you made to the infobox at this article. I am curious to know if you have checked out the infobox post-edit. I am not sure that this is the way the infobox should look (that is I suspect that there is a formatting error in the box). Any thoughts? LonelyBeacon (talk) 22:37, 12 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It looks OK to me. If it is the way I used it, let me know or fix it. If the problem is the actual design of "InfoBox School", this is the Talk page to discuss the InfoBox: Template talk:Infobox School Thanks. EagleFan (talk) 13:30, 13 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Frankly, I'm not sure. I'm not going to run over and make changes. Looking at the infobox now the address line looks cluttered. The format of this infobox formats the school address into the lines near the top. When flags and counties are added, the lines start to look cluttered (IMO). Even adding the county name seems to clutter the address line (I'm sure in some countries, it is used as part of the address, but not in the US). That is an issue with the box formatting. Personally, I don't have a problem with it. Normally, I like adding the mini flags, but I'm not sure if this is the case.  ??????????
Heya Eagle!
I opened a request for comment over at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Schools#recent infobox updates. I hope you will read it because I want to be clear that this was a case of having an opinion and trying to see which way the consensus of the community is on your recent editing.
One of the points brought up is that according to WP:MOSFLAG, the use of the state flag icons is not something that should be used, and it is likely that the American flags don't belong either. The discussion on the county info seems to be more in favor of saving it.
I wanted to let you know about this for a number of reasons:
1. I wanted you to be able to get involved in this discussion, if you choose.
2. I wanted you to know about this, should you choose to alter your future editing.
3. I wanted to volunteer to go back and take out the flags myself. I know you have done a great deal of work. Rather than going back, you may wish to continue forward with your editing. I would be happy to go back and revise. I am not going to touch anything for at least a day or two .... and give you a chance to respond.
Best of luck in future editing. LonelyBeacon (talk) 22:01, 15 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again EF!

I see you are back hard at work on infoboxes again ... I'm not sure if you noticed it, but one of the points brought up in the RFC that I started was that the use of flags (even the American flag) seems to be in violation of the Manual of Style on using flag icons. I thought that the U.S. flag might still be doable, but after reading more into it, the flag symbol may be over-representing the school's nationality (especially given that schools in America are not under the jurisdiction of the federal government), which is otherwise already given as a part of the address. While the Manual of style is not a hardcore policy, it is a generally accepted practice in the encyclopedia. I would strongly urge you to read that guideline as you are editing. Very good luck on your future edits. LonelyBeacon (talk) 22:44, 19 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My interpretation is that country flags in InfoBoxes are OK. EagleFan (talk) 00:08, 20 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
For me, these flags do not follow the spirit for the Manual of Style. -- ForgottenManC (talk) 00:33, 20 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Good morning EF!

I just came across you recent edits to the infobox in this article, and noted that you were adding some unreferenced information (ACT score, number of pupils per year, etc). Where are you getting this inforamtion? I have been seeking reliable, third party sources for prvate school ACT scores for a long time, and if you have such a source, I would like to be able to access it. LonelyBeacon (talk) 15:02, 20 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I have been looking for that too. Even the State DOE's do not seem to have it. My source is the school's website, but it would be nice if that could be compiled somewhere neutrally. My guess is schools sometime fudge the numbers, or sometimes they give the top 50% of students average without a disclosure. I guess the ACT organization does not want to provide that information publicly for a variety of reasons (e.g. they do not want to "rank" the schools. EagleFan (talk) 15:12, 20 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmmm.... I agree with you .... we all have to be cautious about that ... I was also reminded that I did this at the article on Breese Mater Dei ... the school's website can be a reliable source for some information, but I'm not sure ACT scores are necessarily the best (unless it is something like a school report card or other such document which itself comes from an outside source). regarding importance ratings

[edit]

Eagle,

I very politely ask you, as you are going through and rating all of these articles as "low" importance, are you checking to see if they should be rated as "low"? I have caught a few articles that are clearly not low rated articles (Loyola Academy, Mt. Carmel High School (Chicago, Illinois), Gonzaga College High School. These schools have incredibly long lists of notable alumni, that should at the least merit a "Mid". Gonzaga may even rate a "high" ranking given its long history. Am I missing something in your decisions to rate these articles? I could be wrong, but given my past experiences with the project, I think I am making some safe predictions here. LonelyBeacon (talk) 23:11, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I judge them to be Low even with those alumni. Any editor is welcome to bump it up a notch if they feel strongly about it. I've put in some mids, but generally use that for colleges and such.EagleFan (talk) 23:14, 18 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Just so you know, this edit broke the references in the first two lines you changed... – Kacie Jane (talk) 20:36, 28 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi, thanks for your efforts to clean up all those Macedonia links. Just one thing: please don't change redirect links away from the dab page, as you did (twice) [1]. That redirect is actually supposed to point to the dab page Macedonia, and the way you changed it, you created a double redirect, which is a technical error. (I notice some people have also reverted a couple of your changes from Macedonia to Macedonia (disambiguation) in disambiguating hat notes, but I see you have the guideline on your side about those.) Fut.Perf. 16:06, 11 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hat links such as {{other uses}} are not needed if the title is qualified. For example, if somebody has arrived at the page Macedonia, Illinois, then (s)he is already at the desired page. Hat notes are only needed in cases where the title leads to a dominant page, and there is a disambiguation page with a qualified title. Fore example Banitsa leads to the food, and there is a hat note that leads to Banitsa (disambiguation). In the case of Macedonia, the disambiguation has the unqualified title per decision after an AfD. See Wikipedia:Naming conventions (Macedonia). Hatlinks are also needed if a page with the main title is a redirect to a page to a different title, in this case, the hat link is {{redirect}}. I have reverted some of your edits, but now I realized that the hat links had to be actually removed instead of edited. Regards,  Andreas  (T) 18:07, 11 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"Cleaning-up" dab pages

[edit]

Please do not just remove links indicrimiately, as you have done with several attributes in what are clearly artistic contexts. You should have either done nothing, as the reader can easily work out which of the disam links applies, or set up Attribute (art) as a redirect to emblem, pending an individual article, and converted the links to that. "Attribute" in art is a very specific term, with which many readers will not be familiar, and a link here is very useful, even if it goes through a disam page. I have reverted several of your edits using rollback for convenience, though I appreciate the edits were well-intentioned. Johnbod (talk) 15:44, 19 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have marked you as a reviewer

[edit]

I have added the "reviewers" property to your user account. This property is related to the Pending changes system that is currently being tried. This system loosens page protection by allowing anonymous users to make "pending" changes which don't become "live" until they're "reviewed". However, logged-in users always see the very latest version of each page with no delay. A good explanation of the system is given in this image. The system is only being used for pages that would otherwise be protected from editing.

If there are "pending" (unreviewed) edits for a page, they will be apparent in a page's history screen; you do not have to go looking for them. There is, however, a list of all articles with changes awaiting review at Special:OldReviewedPages. Because there are so few pages in the trial so far, the latter list is almost always empty. The list of all pages in the pending review system is at Special:StablePages.

To use the system, you can simply edit the page as you normally would, but you should also mark the latest revision as "reviewed" if you have looked at it to ensure it isn't problematic. Edits should generally be accepted if you wouldn't undo them in normal editing: they don't have obvious vandalism, personal attacks, etc. If an edit is problematic, you can fix it by editing or undoing it, just like normal. You are permitted to mark your own changes as reviewed.

The "reviewers" property does not obligate you to do any additional work, and if you like you can simply ignore it. The expectation is that many users will have this property, so that they can review pending revisions in the course of normal editing. However, if you explicitly want to decline the "reviewer" property, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. — Carl (CBM · talk) 12:33, 18 June 2010 (UTC) — Carl (CBM · talk) 13:27, 18 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure which you are referring to, but I thought the categories in redirects seemed unnecessary (not sure policy there). Also, the more appropriate catgegory may have been "Defunct Roman Catholic Schools in...", I'd guess, since those schools were closed and merged. The "Roman Catholic schools..."catgories should be for active schools only Either way, provide me the pages I'll give it some thought based on policies. I'm certainly flexible. If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Archbishop Curley-Notre Dame High School requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. A tag has been placed on Utah High School Activities Association requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Ohio Wikimedians User Group - Invitation

[edit]

Hi EagleFan,

I'm Kevin, one of the founding members of the Ohio Wikimedians User Group. Created in July 2016, we're working to be a central group of Ohio Wikimedians who organize and support offline events, promote the Wikimedia movement in Ohio, build connections throughout our state, and above all, support each other. We already have a handful of members and have worked to support multiple events, including Wiki Loves Monuments in the United States and several Art+Feminism edit-a-thons at universities throughout Ohio.

I wanted to reach out to you and invite you to join the Ohio Wikimedians User Group. Being a part of the user group will allow easy communication between active Ohio editors, notifications of upcoming events in the Ohio area, and, if you're interested, the opportunity to help organize events such as edit-a-thons or workshops. Some notes:

  • All members receive a monthly newsletter with recent happenings, upcoming events, and more. Check out our April newsletter here.
  • This Thursday at 8:30 EST, we're having our first online meeting. Check out our meeting page here for more details, an agenda, and a section to sign up if you'd like to join us. Topics will include introductions and brainstorming for future projects.

Right now we have a Wikipedia Takes Columbus photo event going on, a Wiknic coming up this summer, and opportunities to attend the upcoming Ohio Private Academic Libraries Conference. If you're interested in joining us, feel free to add your name here - and feel free to reach out to me (or post on the user group's talk page) with questions or discussions. Thanks! ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 07:29, 18 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

2019 US Banknote Contest

[edit]
US Banknote Contest
November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here

Notice

The article Cathedral High School (New Ulm, Minnesota) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not notable.

As per WP:NSCHOOL, "For-profit educational organizations and institutions are considered commercial organizations and must satisfy those criteria. (See also WP:SCHOOLOUTCOMES, especially for universities.)" This is a private school, thus considered a commercial organisation. As per WP:ORGSIG schools are not exempt from the "No inherent notability" rule (i.e. it is not considered notable for the reason that it exists).

Upon a quick Google search, it receives very little/no notice from independent sources. It has had minimal effect on "culture, society, entertainment, athletics, economies, history, literature, science, or education". The closest that comes to this is a swimmer who signed with UoM.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

Hi I’m sorry if this comes off as weird but I was going through the history of the edits to this school, and of course I noticed you started the Wiki. Is there any chance you have more information on this school? I went there as a child but I don’t remember much and I was just very curious about certain things. Anyway thanks! 174.29.73.17 (talk) 04:12, 9 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited List of OHSAA track and field champions, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Marion Local High School. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, --DPL bot (talk) 06:10, 16 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Update School Location

[edit]

Please update Miller High School (Corning, OH.) to Miller High School (Hemlock, OH.) the school is actually located in Hemlock not Corning… The Village of Hemlock is forced to share a zip code with the Village of Corning so everyone thinks that’s where the school is located and it’s not. Please update.
