Hi. As you recently commented in the straw poll regarding the ongoing usage and trial of Pending changes, this is to notify you that there is an interim straw poll with regard to keeping the tool switched on or switching it off while improvements are worked on and due for release on November 9, 2010. This new poll is only in regard to this issue and sets no precedent for any future usage. Your input on this issue is greatly appreciated. Off2riorob (talk) 23:38, 20 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I see that you're one of the main contributors to the Lakers' article. We're getting it ready for FA over here at the WP:NBA. WP NBA in the Signpost

[edit]

"WikiProject Report" would like to focus on WikiProject NBA for a Signpost article. This is an excellent opportunity to draw attention to your efforts and attract new members to the project. Would you be willing to participate in an interview? If so, here are the questions for the interview. Just add your response below each question and feel free to skip any questions that you don't feel comfortable answering. Also, if you know anyone else who would like to participate in the interview, please share this with them. Have a great day. -Mabeenot (talk) 01:07, 21 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Article-specific discussions

[edit]

Further to this, it is good practice that article-specific discussions occur on the article's talk page to engage the watchers of that article. There is nothing wrong with posting notice of a discussion on a WikiProject. Raising additional awareness is always a good thing. However, doing so there instead of the article's talk page bypasses the article's watchers that may not see the discussion on a WikiProject page. To raise awareness, I recommend placing notice on the applicable WikiProject page(s) after the discussion is initiated on the article's talk page. Coincidentally, I just went through this process here, then posted notice here and here regarding a move I requested. Hwy43 (talk) 05:27, 2 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your good faith move of List of census divisions in Alberta to List of census divisions of Alberta, without discussion, with the rationale of "to be consistent with other census divisions lists", has resulted in an inconsistency. It is now inconsistent with, possibly among others:

I encourage you to propose moves through discussions on list articles in future. Had it been open for discussion, I would have had the opportunity to raise this, and would likely expressed opposition. This is the second time I've witnessed moves without discussions where others would have preferred discussions. The first being your move of List of the 100 largest metropolitan areas in Canada to List of metropolitan areas in Canada. Hwy43 (talk) 18:49, 4 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

First off, I'm trying to make the census divisions lists consistent, so I didn't know that there was a consistency of naming articles for Alberta geography lists. I waited three days on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Governments of Canada and no one replied, which was why I decided to move them to consistent naming convention. This situation was different from the List of the 100 largest metropolitan areas in Canada, because it affected a group of articles, not just one, which was why bringing it up on that respective WikiProject was appropriate. Please don't falsely accuse people without checking the facts first, since I did ensue a discussion. --K.Annoyomous (talk) 00:24, 5 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It appears this has been taken personally. I apologize for ruffling feathers. That was not my intent. I appreciate you striving for consistency. We have this in common.
My observation about the undiscussed move was within the context of the article's talk page. It is a factual observation (not an accusation) that a discussion did not talk place there, and it is unfair to extrapolate the observation to a WikiProject talk page on governments in Canada. I do not watch that page.
It should be noted that census divisions are a StatCan level of geography supported by WikiProject Geography of Canada, not the other WikiProject where the discussion took place. In some provinces, census divisions may correspond to some level of sub-provincial government, but they are levels of geography first. Perhaps posting it on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Geography of Canada would have yielded more interest from others.
Notwithstanding, I do appreciate your attempt to initiate a discussion at the other WikiProject, particularly in that you are striving for consistency on a national level. Hwy43 (talk) 04:30, 5 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I never take any discussion on Wikipedia personally. You just accused me again of something that was false and unproven. As you can tell see, I don't like false accusations. Just personally, if I see an edit or move that shouldn't have happened, I would ask the editor why that move/edit was made instead of directly going into an argument per se. We're both here to help Wikipedia, and we're both trying to receive consensus from our opinions. I'm from British Columbia, so the first article talk page I saw was of course Talk:List of regional districts of British Columbia. The first WikiProject I saw was WikiProject Governments of Canada, so I decided to post my discussion there. For some unknown reason, I did not start a discussion in Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Geography of Canada. I can agree with you that I should have to yield more interest. --K.Annoyomous (talk) 05:42, 5 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I interpreted your reply as taking it personal based on a reference to my factual observation as a false accusation. It appears I have misinterpreted your reply. My bad. As you've probably seen, I have since seen how you arrived at the one WikiProject and not the other. Understandable. Good luck to your Canucks tomorrow. Non-free rationale for File:NestlePureLife.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:NestlePureLife.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Gettting Wikimedians to the Olympic Games

[edit]

Hi. I am part of an effort to get Wikimedians access to the 2016 Summer Olympics as accredited reporters and photographers. Part of this effort includes covering the 2012 Summer Paralympics. Two Wikimedians have credentials to attend these games as reporters through Wikimedia Australia. As English Wikipedia does not allow original reporting, this is largely through Wikinews with a project page found at Wikinews:Paralympic Games. If you are interested in helping to get Wikimedians to the next Summer Olympics,I'd encourage you to assist with Wikinews efforts, and also to work on all language 2012 Summer Paralympic Wikipedia articles before, during and after the Games to demonstrate a track record of success. Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Canada/The 10,000 Challenge is up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge for the UK which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for Canada but fuelled by a contest such as The North America Destubathon to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. The article Flying Wedge Pizza has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

The coverage (references, external links, etc.) does not seem sufficient to justify this article passing Wikipedia:General notability guideline and the more detailed Wikipedia:Notability (companies) requirement. If you disagree and deprod this, please explain how it meets them on the talk page here in the form of "This article meets criteria A and B because..." and ping me back through WP:ECHO or by leaving a note at User talk:Piotrus. Thank you.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. The 1000 Women in Religion Project is working to improve the coverage of women’s contributions to religious, spiritual and wisdom traditions worldwide. In support of this goal, the edit-a-thon at Atla's (formerly the American Theological Library Association) annual meeting will focus on improving articles about women in religion. We would love to have a few Vancouver area Wikipedians to help us get new editors oriented and editing!!

Invitation to participate in a research

[edit]

Hello,

The Wikimedia Foundation is conducting a survey of Wikipedians to better understand what draws administrators to contribute to Wikipedia, and what affects administrator retention. We will use this research to improve experiences for Wikipedians, and address common problems and needs. We have identified you as a good candidate for this research, and would greatly appreciate your participation in this anonymous survey.

You do not have to be an Administrator to participate.

The survey should take around 10-15 minutes to complete. You may read more about the study on its Meta page and view its privacy statement .

Please find our contact on the project Meta page if you have any questions or concerns.

Kind Regards,

WMF Research Team
