StarDict and StarDic

[edit]

The author of StarDict is HuZheng(in Chinese as 胡正), while the software StarDic author's name is MaSuan(in Chinese as 马苏安). Although with similar names, they are two diferent softwares.

StarDic is the predecessor of StarDict.

Difficulty

[edit]

StarDict is now faced with a great difficulty that its author is no longer a colledge student as before and certainly there is much less time for him to devote himself to the project of StarDict.

Hopefully, someday, there will be someone, who should be as skilled as the author, willing to join the project of StarDict!

Lingoes

[edit]

Lingoes is NOT "Free Software"; as stated in: LINGOES TRANSLATOR END-USER LICENSE AGREEMENT, section 2; which says: "Reverse Engineering, Decompilation, Disassembly and Modification. You may not reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the SOFTWARE PRODUCT and change (add, delete or modify) the resources of the compiled assembly, except and only to the extent that such activity is expressly permitted by applicable law notwithstanding this limitation."

It's just "Freeware". So I edited the section and put it under the proper title: Proprietary Software.

In case anyone knows of a working alternative, the link referenced here is defunct:

[edit]

Does anyone have any details on the copyright infringement complaints. Who made them, and about what portions of the software? That is sort of important information that should be included in the article.

From what I can tell, most speculation is that it is with the dictionary files, not the program, but I cannot find any solid information online.

A concensus of online speculation is not a "reliable source" and is hardly more reliable than rumors. --Robert Wm "Ruedii" (talk) 11:31, 9 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

StarDict-3

[edit]

There is a StarDict project on Google Code: http://code.google.com/p/stardict-3/ which seems to be current.
