VFD (2004)

[edit]

Article was listed on Wikipedia:Votes for deletion June 30 to July 7 2004, was kept as consensus was not reached. Discussion may be found at Talk:The Solo family/Delete.

This article has existed for over a year, why do we want to delete it now?

It's just come over the radar now. RickK 05:25, Jun 30, 2004 (UTC)

Several other articles that are nominated for deletion have existed for a while now. That doesn't make them any more immune to deletion, does it? This fictional family is hardly notable and belongs in a list. 68.219.26.177 (talk) 01:03, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The name

[edit]

Skywalker was also a codename for a Game Genie code that allowed Mario to fly in a level anytime on Super Mario Bros. 3. Should we add that to the Skywalker family article since Skywalker redirects to it? --SuperDude 04:11, 8 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

We would if that information was notable and really relavent to Wikipedia's goal. At best it could be listed on the Super Mario Bros. 3 page in a "refrences to pop culture section," but then again Wikipedia discourages trivia sections. 68.219.26.177 (talk) 01:00, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dark Side of the Force

[edit]

Well look at here. Only Anakin is seduced to the Dark Side as a Dark Jedi and not a sith lord but does anyone have any specific proof the Skywalker family is seduced into sith?(76.211.140.155 (talk) 20:17, 24 June 2008 (UTC))[reply]

Anakin Skywalker -> Darth Vader. Jacen Solo (son of Leia) -> Darth Caedus. Cade Skywalker has always walked a thin path between Light and the Dark... Should I mention Dark Empire and Luke's fall? General Grevious

[edit]

I remember when Star wars Episode III came out, i was reading a trivia section in a magazine about the movie and it said that general grevious was Anakin's father. I don't have any refrances but can somebody look at it for me. Banana7070 8:53, 20 July 2008

Ben S.

[edit]

Someone is going to sit on me straight away for this, but I think that Ben Skywalker deserves a page of his own. Not in Wookiepedia detail, we don't want to be bored, but just something of his own that doesn't keep redirecting. Let me know what you think on my talk page 20-13-rila (talk) 09:44, 5 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The character has not garnered meaningful real-world, third-party coverage; the subject fails the notability guidelines for a standalone article. --EEMIV (talk) 14:48, 5 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Canonicity/Relevance?

[edit]

This family tree contains several characters who aren't in the movies, but are found in expanded universe works. If these characters are not canon, are they relevant? I haven't made an edit yet, but I feel like now Episode VII is approaching, there is the risk of causing confusion. When I looked at the page today I thought for a moment that maybe the canon identities of Luke's descendants had been announced. This is my first time editing Wikipedia, although I've been lurking on talk pages for years picking up the etiquette as well as I can, and I'd welcome some guidance on how to proceed. LadyLeitMotif (talk) 14:49, 18 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Canon status isn't a criterion for inclusion/exclusion from Wikipedia. Verifiability -- i.e. "Can I cite this to a reliable source?" -- is the bar to clear. This article in particular is kind of an oddball one, since it's pretty trivial and the subject hasn't garnered a lot of third-party coverage. But, take a gander over at e.g. Boba Fett, which makes passing reference to some of the conflicting EU details across the years. I imagine something like that -- i.e. acknowledging conflict and the *real world* changes that have led to shifts in the official story -- will crop up across a whole bunch of Star Wars articles in the next few years. --EEMIV (talk) 15:16, 18 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your reply, EEMIV! I read Boba Fett as well as Star Wars Expanded Universe and WP:STARWARS, and honestly I think I'm in a little over my head. It seems like structuring this article similarly to Boba Fett, paying a little more attention to WP:WAF would help. I like that Boba Fett is written with a less in-universe tone, and lists the character's appearances using IRL chronology. I'm reluctant to edit information pertaining to the Expanded Universe, because I'm unfamiliar with most of it, but I'd be prepared to begin an "Appearances" section using the IRL chronology? Rey Skywalker?

[edit]

It's apparent or pretty plausible that Rey Skywalker from the Force Awakens to actually be Luke's daughter. Comments? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.204.42.110 (talk) 15:05, 18 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I agree in that I think the film heavily implies that Rey has at least some relation to the Skywalker family. However, I don't think it's appropriate to mention Rey here at this moment, since the TFA offers no clear and concise family history for her character. Listing her here at this moment is basically just pure speculation. Any info on Rey's family history likely won't be revealed until the next film. Since the next sequel isn't due out for another year and a half, we're likely going to be waiting for a while (and that's even if we get any info on her parentage in Episode VII). Canuck89 (converse with me) 08:30, December 21, 2015 (UTC)
Comment Rey is the granddaughter of Palpatine, and Palpatine is the father of Anakin. So, she'd technically be Leia's second cousin. I agree with @Canuckian89, she's kind of a Skywalker. Perhaps she should be considered extended family? Dswitz10734 (talk) 22:19, 28 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Palpatine did not create Anakin nor father him in Disney canon. But maybe Rey should go in the extended family considering that she is not on the tree from the Skywalker Family Tree (Star Wars Book 2020, pg. 200).

The Solo children in the Legends section

[edit]

Should there be entries in the Legends section for the three children of Leia Organa? We do have a section for Kylo Ren. It would seem consistent to add sections for them. Adam in MO Talk 05:36, 22 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned references in Skywalker family

[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Skywalker family's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Reference named "multiple actors":

  • From List of Star Wars characters: Bray, Adam (April 2, 2015). "Split Personalities: Star Wars Movie Characters Played By Multiple Actors". StarWars.com. Lucasfilm. Retrieved December 26, 2016.
  • From Greedo: Bray, Adam (April 2, 2015). "Split Personalities: Star Wars Movie Characters Played By Multiple Actors". StarWars.com. Retrieved December 26, 2016.

I apologize if any of the above are effectively identical; I am just a simple computer program, so I can't determine whether minor differences are significant or not. AnomieBOT 12:39, 19 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Keep Rey?

[edit]

Is there consensus to keep Rey as a part of the Star Wars family even though she isn't of the same family? Personally, I think we should keep here given the following:

  1. She adopted the Skywalker name.
  2. She's on the "light side" and the protagonist.

Thanks, P,TO 19104 (talk) (contribs) 22:21, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Personally I would say no, not to put her down as a member of the Skywalker family. I wouldn't be against a note saying something to the words of "Rey chose to adopt the Skywalker name" since that's explicitly what happened, but no one of the Skywalker family ever made her part of the family. Some members of the family trained her, taught her a few things about the Force, but that's mentorship, not familial ties. Rey chose to give herself the surname. So sure, she's a Skywalker in name, but she's not part of the Skywalker family, if you can see the distinction I'm trying to make? Let's say for example that I change my surname to, say, "Hamill". Nothing stopping me from doing it. I'd legally be a Hamill in name and no one could refute that, but I wouldn't be part of the Hamill family unless they accepted me as part of it. Rey's Force alignment or status as a protagonist is irrelevant to the subject.

Aeliren (talk) 23:51, 30 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I agree it does not make sense to include her solely because she declared herself to be Rey Skywalker. If we had seen some sort of extensive familial relationship (a la Jean Valjean and Cosette, where Jean never formally adopted Cosette, but essentially raised her) then I'd make a case for Rey to stay on the Skywalker tree, but Rey was an adult in both age and actions (she easily took care of herself in many, many situations). It's also worth noting that a mentor/student relationship (even for extended periods of time) is not the same as an adoptive or surrogate relationship. There are many examples of this (Mr. Miyagi/Daniel, Alfred/Bruce Wayne, Kanan Jarrus/Ezra, and specific Star Wars examples go on forever because of the prevalence of masters/knights/padawans). Note that in all these cases the student never views themselves as part of the family. Even teacher/student relationships that were very (platonically) intimiate, such as Mr. Miyagi and Daniel never got to the point of Daniel assuming the Miyagi surname.

It also begs the questions: who adopted Rey and when did they adopt her? With most adoptive relationships, you can point to a specific person and moment to answer these. With my previous examples, Mr. Miyagi when he agree to teach Daniel, Alfred when Bruce's parents died, Kanan/Ezra when they began the teacher/padawan relationship. For Rey it's kind of up in the air. As it stands right now she looks super awkward off to the side of the family tree, like she doesn't even belong there.

Also, Anakin and Ben Solo were on the dark side for a while there but they stay on the tree because they are blood descendants of Shmi.

Nevesnotrab (talk) 10:29, 31 October 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Additionally, Wookieepedia does not include Rey [1], and Rey is officially listed as "Rey" without a surname on starwars.com [2], which is the official site.

Nevesnotrab (talk) 05:26, 1 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Also, looking at link [16] (https://www.starwars.com/databank/rey) which is used as evidence for the following sentence "Rey adopts Skywalker as her surname to continue the family legacy." there is no indication in this link of Rey's motivation in adopting the Skywalker surname, ie that she has adoped the surname 'to continue the family legacy' is unproven and not supported by the provided evidence. Note also this site also only refers to 'Rey' and not 'Rey Skywalker' in it's title for the character. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 110.174.59.139 (talk) 14:07, 1 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

She's referred to as "Rey Skywalker" in the caption of the very last picture in her image gallery.Skywatcher68 (talk) 17:53, 12 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I found another source. According to the Star Wars Book page 200 (an official book from Disney) Rey is not included on the Skywalker family tree [3]. It refutes the point above (and states explicitly that Rey will continue the legacy). But, I think because we have a canon source for the family tree that she should be removed from the tree to align with Disney's canon.

Nevesnotrab (talk) 22:57, 1 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

This is still being disputed. I have semi-protected the article for a week. Please use an RfC to resolve this issue to stop the edit warring. Fences&Windows 23:10, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The Star Wars Book’s family tree only includes the core, blood related members, it does not include the extended tree as it is here. If you want the tree as it is in that book, then you'd have to remove several other members. With the extended tree, there is no reason for only Rey to be excluded, since she is related in the Force with Ben Solo as established in the film and books. She was referenced to as Ben Solo's "twin" or "soulmate" in the Force before. She is not related to him by blood, but in the Force. I don't see why this information would be excluded from this extended tree, especially with the new canon book about the Skywalkers with the entire third part featuring the dyad, which includes both Ben Solo and Rey, and it is a book that includes only the members of the Skywalker family:

  • Skywalker A Family at War:

[4] [5] [6] [7]

  • Others:

[8] [9]

Arabela13 (talk) 22:54, 26 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The current tree only includes those in the tree from the Star Wars Book and their spouses/ancestors. Since Rey is not a spouse or ancestor, she isn't in the tree. Dyad is not a familial or marital relationship. Rey is important to the Skywalker family and therefore stays on the main Skywalker Family Tree page, but not the template of the main family members, their spouses, and ancestors.

I looked through the sources you posted, and they only mention Rey in relationship to Ben, and then once at the very end. Does she have her own sections (notice the plural. One blurb about her at the end taking the name isn't much)? If she is only mentioned in regards to her relationship to Ben and then at the end when she decides to take the name, then it is a rather weak argument for her inclusion in the tree. You could write a book about just Han Solo and you'd have to mention Chewbacca, but that doesn't make Chewbacca a Solo. Do you see what I mean? If she is her own Skywalker, so to speak, she'd have her own, unique, sections of the book dedicated to her.

However you have a point that it is an extended tree. I wouldn't mind shaving it down to just the blood members so that it better matches the official published tree. Otherwise I guess your best bet is contact Disney and ask them to add her to the tree, but that would be weird because she isn't married to or descended from anyone on the tree.

Additional family

[edit]

When Shmi is being buried on the Lars homestead in Attack of the Clones, there are three graves alongside her. Jason Fry's canon reference book "Star Wars: Complete Locations" (2016), mentions that these three graves belong to Cliegg Lars' parents Lef and Gredda, along with his brother Edern who died in a landspeeder accident. However, these are highly obscure characters so I'm not sure if they should be included. Any consensus? Painting17 (talk) 13:43, 8 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
