Marvin Camras's 1941 invention

[edit]

One issue I had with this article: The article gives no sense of what Camras's key 1941 invention was about. Camras was one of three inventors who independently discovered the linearizing effect of AC bias around the same time -- one in Japan and one in Germany. This enabled significant improvement in tape recording fidelity (wire recording at that time). This is recorded in the wikip article on Tape Bias. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tape_bias#AC_bias As far as I know AC bias was used for all high fidelity analog tape recording, ever since, so you see why the invention was important.

Arguably the war prevented each group from learning about the others' discovery -- this would explain why each group got a patent in their home country.

I suggest that the sentence regarding the 1941 invention be modified to include the words "AC bias for improved fidelity," and that the article be cross-referenced to the sources cited in the Tape Bias article.
