Darnell Edge Revisions

[edit]

Hello. Per the request of @Left guide I would like to have the following info inserted back into the college career section, however, I am adding the following independent sources below to be utilized instead, as @Left guide informed me that I am fine to continue using news articles and other sites as I originally have, but not school web sources. Note that Left guide already added the NCAA free throw back in the original page as it was properly cited prior. Please note for the FDYS award, I would have to keep the original source because it is a school award, therefore, it would only be available through the school's website. Please let me know if the below will suffice with the new source links! If so, I am happy to add back myself if admin is unable.

Freshman season

[edit]

As a freshman, Edge made his breakthrough with the Knights during a match against Saint Francis University on January 28, 2016, where he earned a then career-high of 20 points. (source: ESPN: https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/recap?gameId=400845074) In the 2016 Northeast Conference men's basketball tournament against Wagner College, Edge and the Knights secured an 82–79 win, (source: ESPN: https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/recap/_/gameId/400870175) sending the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights to their first NCAA Tournament since 2005. With a little over three minutes left in the game, Edge made a three-pointer, putting the Knights ahead at 71-65. (source: NEC.org https://northeastconference.org/news/2016/3/5/MBB_Semifinal_Recaps_NEC16.aspx) In the end, Edge scored 12 points, becoming one of five players on the team to score in the double digits for the night.

Sophomore season

[edit]

Edge was a starter in 16 games during the 2016–17 season with the Knights. He scored consistently in the double digits, earning another season high of 19 points against LIU Brooklyn on February 11, 2017 (source: FOX Sports: https://www.foxsports.com/stories/college-basketball/blackbirds-go-free-throw-route-to-beat-fdu-tie-for-second-feb-11-2017). He would score another high of 19 points against Saint Francis on February 25, 2017, and would go on to be named NEC Primetime Performer (source: NEC.org https://northeastconference.org/news/2018/11/25/MBB_Release_11_26_18-.aspx)upon averaging 17 points per game with a field-goal percentage of 60.8 over a two-game period.

Junior season

Hello. I am still awaiting to see if these are approved so I may insert them back into the college section. Please let me know! InfinitiBowie97 (talk) 03:11, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Based on my understanding of Wikipedia policy, I'm somewhat uncomfortable with implementing such a high-volume usage of ESPN game recaps (plus a Fox game recap) since they aren't really considered to be secondary sources. WP:PRIMARY policy clause says:

For Wikipedia's purposes, breaking news stories are also considered to be primary sources.

I also wouldn't consider the conference website to be fully independent either. I have limited time on this being occupied with other things on Wikipedia and real life, so haven't completely dissected all of the sources, but from doing a random spot check on a few, I also encountered instances of WP:OR such as career-high and made his breakthrough. In any case, I'm willing to abide by consensus established by other neutral volunteer editors. @Rikster2 and Bagumba: thoughts? Left guide (talk) 07:41, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
There's editors that track these edit requests via Category:Wikipedia conflict of interest edit requests (or others). Otherwise, one could make a neutral reuqest at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject College basketball, if perhaps there's an editor there that's interested. Good luck.—Bagumba (talk) 11:10, 26 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

  • Why it should be changed:

Hello. Per the request of Wiki admin Leftguide I would like to have the following info inserted back into the college career section, however, I am adding the following independent sources below to be utilized instead, as Left Guide informed me that I am fine to continue using news articles and other sites as I originally have, but not school web sources.

Note I am a paid editor and this has been noted and acknowledged by other Wiki editors as stated on the Darnel Edge page.

  • References supporting the possible change (format using the "cite" button):

References

This newer proposal looks like the same or similar sources as before (and from a cursory glance looks like the same content), so my original concern about sourcing choices is still valid. Also, just to be clear I'm not an admin nor did I ever say I was, just a regular volunteer editor. In any case, admins don't have any extra power to rule over content decisions, it comes down to community consensus. Left guide (talk) 00:59, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Oh whoops sorry I assumed you were! And yes it is the same I wasn’t sure if you were actually saying these cites couldn’t be used so I was seeking a differing opinion. In any event thank you for the insight. I would like to put these sections back minus the citations, and will opt to find different sources if that works InfinitiBowie97 (talk) 01:15, 27 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hello. Please note I have added these sections back but with different sources from news articles. Hopefully these will suffice. I did keep one ESPN site and the NEC site given I have come across multiple wiki pages (2017–18 Northeast Conference men's basketball season) that use it as a source. I also could not find another source stating his NEC win. Hope this will suffice as I did try to find as many news sources as I could to back these up. Edit Request: Darnell Edge

[edit]

Hello. I am a paid page creator for Darnell Edge. Note this is disclosed publicly on the page. I have had a few run-ins with Wiki editors because I am new to the Wiki process, however, I understand I did not take the proper measures due to my confusion. I am currently blocked indefinitely per @Star Mississippi (no hard feelings!) from editing directly on the page. I would like to start anew and do this properly, as I did work very hard on this page and would like it to be perfect, as I was paid for this article already.

Therefore, I am suggesting the following edits through this page as suggested. The below edits were initially eradicated by @Left guide who has been helpful in this process. Left guide, I know you deleted these a few times, the first due to improper sources. I updated the sources but I do know you deleted again because I edited in the article directly rather than requested (or so I am assuming!). I am now requesting for the below in his Early life and College Career either from you @Left guide @DaHuzyBru or another editor, please.

For Early Life

Born and raised in Saugerties, New York, Edge first played basketball at the age of three after his father, who had once played for his own high school basketball team, gifted him with a Fisher Price toy basketball hoop. By age eight, Edge was playing in organized basketball leagues around town. (I have a citation here that displays Darnell grew up in Saugerties: https://hudsonvalleyone.com/2019/07/20/saugerties-basketball-standout-darnell-edge-learns-the-ropes-in-nba-summer/ can we use this citation and add this statement back?) (Because I am a paid editor I did communicate with Darnell at the time who told me he started playing ball at 3 after his father gifted him a Fisher Price hoop. There is no editorial evidence of this, but can I still include? It is a true statement. If not, I am fine to omit)

@InfinitiBowie97: Most of the above is unsourced fluff nonsense. gifted him with a Fisher Price toy basketball hoop – c'mon now, this does not being on Wikipedia. Darnell can write his own self published biography novel of his life and include all the glorious detail of when he was 3 and 8. Of the detail you have noted above, the hudsonvalleyone source only supports that he grew up Saugerties, so that is all I will be adding. DaHuzyBru (talk) 23:52, 30 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ha thanks, I appreciate it. Well I was just trying to make it fun! But again a bit new so I didn't know. Thanks however for adding the citation for Saugerties. Could this also be added in his info box as well for the Born section? Now that we have the Hudson Valley section. InfinitiBowie97 (talk) 00:16, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The source says "grew up", not "born in". Will need a source that specifically states "born" or "birthplace". DaHuzyBru (talk) 00:25, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I see. Hm, ESPN does specifically list the birthplace as Saugerties here: https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/bio/_/id/3948797/darnell-edge does this count? InfinitiBowie97 (talk) 00:44, 1 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@DaHuzyBru hola, just wanted to follow up, know you must be busy. Is it ok if we add in Saugerties as his birthplace in the info box, based on the ESPN source I shared above? It states his birthplace as Saugerties. InfinitiBowie97 (talk) 17:54, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the edits! Think this is finally in a good spot. I’m good from here InfinitiBowie97 (talk) 05:20, 24 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

For College Career

Freshman season

As a freshman, Edge earned a career-high of 20 points during a match against Saint Francis University on January 28, 2016 (there is the ESPN citation here: https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/recap?gameId=400845074 it is just one ESPN citation, I cannot find another source for this. Can we please use?) In the 2016 Northeast Conference men's basketball tournament against Wagner College, Edge and the Knights secured an 82–79 win, sending the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights to their first NCAA Tournament since 2005. (I originally cited this from Staten Island Live News article: https://www.silive.com/sports/advance/gordon/2016/02/wagner_college_falls_82-79_in.html does this count as an independent source as it is a news article)

Sophomore season

During the 2016–17 season with the Knights, Edge scored another career-high of 19 points against Saint Francis on February 25, 2017 (originally cited from USA Today: https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaab/2017/02/25/st-francis-pa-holds-off-fairleigh-dickinson-70-64/98408526/?utm_source=feedblitz&utm_medium=FeedBlitzRss&utm_campaign=usatodaycomcollegemensbasketball-topstories can this be used?) and would go on to be named NEC Primetime Performer upon averaging 17 points per game with a field-goal percentage of 60.8 over a two-game period. (initially cited from the NEC.org cite, there are no other cites I can find, but I have noticed other wiki pages have actively cited NEC.org as it is the official website. Can we use? https://northeastconference.org/news/2018/11/25/MBB_Release_11_26_18-.aspx)

Junior season Following the title, Edge became the first Fairleigh Dickinson men's basketball player to lead the NCAA in a category in the university's 68-year program history. On November 18, 2017 in a game against Kean University, Edge played a total of 24 minutes, scoring 18 points and seven steals, helping the Knights to a 94-55 win. (originally cited from USA Today as a news source, can we please use? https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaab/2017/11/18/edge-and-holloway-combine-for-35-in-fairleigh-dickinson-win/107826052/) In a match against Bryant University on January 27, 2018, Edge made five 3-pointers and racked up a team high of 21 points, as the Knights took home a 89–78 win. (originally cited from Associated Press news syndication from KSL, can we use this news source? https://www.ksl.com/article/46247218/fairleigh-dickinson-beats-bryant-89-78-behind-edge-jenkins)

I appreciate the help in advance. InfinitiBowie97 (talk) 20:21, 30 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Left guide wanted to kindly flag again as I know you are busy. Only tagging you here as I know you initially deleted the college sections - however, I am hoping you will reconsider putting them back in now that the sources have been updated with live news sources (I know ESPN is still there, however it is just this one) NEC as well due to the fact that it is the original source of his NEC award. Please let me know, would really love to add these back in with these sources, if they are okay to use. :) InfinitiBowie97 (talk) 17:52, 2 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
