Plans to Edit

[edit]

I am planning on adding content and editing this article in the coming weeks. First, I plan to add information to the Chicano art and Chicano Religion sections to give a more up-to-date understanding of these topics. I will make sure these sections are also reflected in the lead section: I will add a paragraph the the lead section mentioning the Chicano art, Chicano Religion, and Chicano press sections because they are currently not mentioned at all. I also plan on looking for citations for sentences that are currently already in the article because there are sections that have zero citations, so I want to help make it easier for readers to see where information is coming from. I will also copy edit because when I was reading through the article, I noticed some grammatical errors, mainly relating to comma usage. These edits will make the article more balanced and reliable for readers when looking for sourcing information. JennaTrauff (talk) 14:12, 22 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The Chicano Movement in Retrospect

[edit]

The Chicano Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s serves as a precedent, an antecedent in this ongoing story of the Mexican American experience. One does not need to see him or herself as a follower of this movement but an objective observer of historical fact. Contributions made to this article must also in turn be objective facts.—Preceding unsigned comment added by AVALOS714 (talkcontribs)

Update

[edit]

After seeing that much of what has been complained about is now ommitted, I say that this article is neutral. Please refrain from passionate assertions and limit your contributions to the statement of historical facts in regards to this article. I therefore call for a resolution.—Preceding unsigned comment added by AVALOS714 (talkcontribs)

NPOV

[edit]

This article is one of the most biased I have read in a long time. Statements such as:

  • "Such banditry, however, was the exception rather than the rule, as the vast majority of Mexican Americans continued to live under oppression."
  • "It was in instituts of higher learning that they began to uncover their own history, a history that was never taught and often deliberately hidden in American public schools"

While I am a great-grandson of immigrants who fled during the Mexican Revolution, I dont follow this movement, so I cannot offer improvements. user:Pzg Ratzinger

racial slur in "Chicano nationalism" section

[edit]

In addition to a sweeping, unsupportable generalization about young Chicanos, this article includes inflammatory and offensive racist content. In the "Chicano nationalism" section the article not only suggests that discrimination about Chicanos is justified (by their inherent "worthlessness") but also uses a highly derogatory racist image ("the inherent Chicano chicanery mindset") to portray Chicano student activists:

"These same youth are shocked when they are refused employment by Anglos, and blame the Anglos, accusing them of discrimination. Rather than accept their own worthlessness, the inherent Chicano chicanery mindset leads them to blame others. No surprise there!"76.168.64.238 01:03, 26 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I deleted this part of the article. I invite non-racists to add to the section, as the last sentence is in need of (legitimate) elaboration. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.135.121.62 (talkcontribs) 23:07, 25 June 2007

Edit Aztlán section and MEChA description

[edit]

I wanted to add more information to these sections. I was considering using the following source: <http://www.oxfordartonline.com.libdb.njit.edu:8888/subscriber/article/grove/art/T049509?q=Latin+American+artists+of+the+USA&hbutton_search.x=0&hbutton_search.y=0&source=oao_gao&source=oao_t118&source=oao_t234&source=oao_t4&search=quick&pos=1&_start=1#firsthit />. I think this would be a great resource to enhance the article. Any thoughts? --NJIT HUMCM (talk) 19:06, 1 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

General article improvement

[edit]

While the topic of the article is very important and needs to be expanded in wikipedia. I find the actual quality of the text quite low. I don't mean to offend any editors who have obviously worked hard to add detail to the article, but a lot of the text is overly verbose, switches between describing research methods and their findings and features a lot of editorialising without any sources. I have going to start cleaning it up to a readable form, please discuss any issues here. Ashmoo (talk) 11:34, 22 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
