Deputy Prime Minister of Where?

Of Chechnya. Wondering about how to put this into the sentence without cluttering it..
  • Any ideas what Zakayev is up to these days? Any chance of an update... I suspect that he's keeping a low profile. Look what happened to one of his former colleagues Zelimkhan Yanderbiyev
  • Ahmed is, of course, a Deputy Prime Minister in the Chechen government-in-exile, a dubious entity recognised by nobody...

On Friday 8th Dec 2006, Ahmed Zakayev attended the funeral of Litvinenko, the former KGB Officer who died of Polonium-210 poisoning in London some days before. Zakaeyev described Litvinenko as a "close associate". Litvinenko's funeral was held at the Regent's Park Mosque, since he had recently converted to Islam.Reiner Torheit 03:43, 8 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In the middle of Feb 2007 Russian government told mass media that, after ratification of some treaties, Russia will go to UN international court to bring an action against UK of covering a terrorist Zakayev.Alexandre Koriakine 15:36, 15 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dissident?

[edit]

This is a minor question, but Irpen just reverted my categorization him as "Russian dissident" (Russian means country, not ethnicity, and I assume that Chechnya is a part of Russia). Irpen said: "You must be joking to keep a terrorist in the same cat as Starovoitova". The point is: he was not convicted as a terrorist or criminal. Quite the opposite, he was ganted a political asylum by UK court, just as Litvinenko, Bukovsky and some others. So, what is the difference between them?Biophys 16:38, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Chechen terrorist?

[edit]

One of users inserts a "Chechen terrorist" category here. Please provide your sources. Of course the story of his court proceedings in UK is worth describing in this article, but I do not have time right now.Biophys 23:34, 26 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You must provide multiple reliable sources that say: "Zakayev is terrorist" per WP:source and especially WP:BLP. Furthermore, this should be a "majority view" to make such Category.Biophys 16:19, 27 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, yes. [1] Is NATO notable organisation? --Paukrus 23:56, 27 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If NATO officially included him in the list of terrorists, you must be able to support this claim by a reference to an official NATO publication/site, or to at least one publication in a respectable English language source (naturally, such source would explain WHY all the sudden he has been declared a terrorist). I checked web site of NATO. It does NOT tell that he is a terrorist.Biophys 18:06, 29 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
He's a terrorist. It's fact. I saw many English sources those claimed Zakaev is terrorist. If you support terrorists or have rusophobe sentiment's it's only your opinion. --Paukrus 23:56, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Lenta.ru and rbc.ru are one of the most notable sources. It isn't yellow press. --Paukrus 23:57, 30 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
So far, you did not provide any English language reference claiming him to be a terrorist. Russian reference in grani.ru looks very much like a hoax. It claims that NATO suddenly and without any reason classified him as a terrorist, which would be a significant news. But this info can not be found anywhere in Western press or at the web site of NATO. We both know that Russian news agencies often publish disinformation on people like Zakayev.Biophys 23:42, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's position of extremist mass-media. --Paukrus 07:10, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He is a Terrorist!

[edit]

--Paukrus 08:39, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

    • That particular BBC article doesn't state that he's a terrorist. Neither do the others. BBC only claims that Russia called for Mr Zakayev to be detained as a terrorist. At best this would be enough to include the page into the category "People accused by Russia of terrorism". Stop violating WP:BLP and edit-warring to prove a point. Colchicum 10:12, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
      • Like it may write USA claimed Ben Laden is terrorist. :) If Zakaev isn't terrorist then Ben Laden is not terrorist too. --Paukrus 10:23, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
        • Zakayev has been examined by a British court and there are plenty of notable opinions stressing that he is not a terrorist. Categorization cannot be based on controversies. You are welcome to create the category "People accused of terrorism by Russia", it would be perfectly appropriate here. The category "Chechen terrorists" isn't. Colchicum 10:28, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
          • Chechnya isn't part of UK. Then British court isn't notable for Russian territory and laws.--Paukrus 11:25, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
            • Russia's opinion is irrelevat to Wikipedia. Wikipedia isn't part of Russia. Colchicum 11:30, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
              • Yes. Wikipedia isn't part of UK or USA too. UK's/US' sources aren't more relevant then Russian. Zakaev is terrorist, it's fact. --Paukrus 23:23, 1 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
                • As to this issue, UK/US sources are generally more impartial than Chechen/Russian sources. But as you have provided no reliable sources at all, there is nothing to discuss. Wikipedia:Categorization: Categories that are not self-evident, or are shown through reliable sources to be controversial, should not be included on the article Colchicum 14:07, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
                  • Hahaha, an islamist, who rages jihad against non-believers, with a band on his stirn saying of about jihad. Is not a terrorist. What kind of JOKE are you?! The 9/11 terrorists were LESS obsessed than this one. "controversial" hahahaha! He is released purely because he is a useful animal, same way US brainwashed Mohajeen in Afghanistan, which later become Al Queda.89.1.168.111 (talk) 14:29, 27 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Birth date?

[edit]

The info box and the introduction both say 1956 but the section Early life says 1959. I don't have much time now researching but the linked BBC article also states 1959. --MusiKk (talk) 21:47, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Recent reverts

I restored more complete version. If anything is missing, please tell what it is.Biophys (talk) 01:07, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Just out of curiousity, why are you so interested in some lousy terrorist? You're doing a great deal of work here to give this swine good publicity. Why? A Chechen? Or just a young silly boy who thinks he can change the world? A Redgrave maybe? :-)) Leo (talk) 09:51, 18 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

BLP violation

[edit]

Why do you remove notice that he was found not guilty by British court? Doing so is against WP:BLP policy.Biophys (talk) 20:35, 21 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to insert that he is currently wanted by the Interpol, please provide your source.Biophys (talk) 20:32, 25 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
"commando ride" - when and where? It does not even tell if the ride was in Dagestan. According to other sources, "As for Zakayev’s alleged participation in the torture of Ivan Solovyov and in the invasion of Dagestan in 1999, the defence showed both accusations to be invented and conflicting with the facts." [2]. Not only he did not participate in Dagestan war, but he claimed this war was organized by Russian government through its Chechen agents:

To that extent, Zakayev continued, Umarov's proclamation of a North Caucasus emirate would serve the same purpose as did the declaration in August 1999 of an independent Islamic state in Daghestan in triggering a new war in Chechnya. Zakayev further claimed that Moscow has allocated $500 million to implement "Operation Emirate," and that Russian intelligence operatives have met in an unnamed third country with Chechen representatives to secure their cooperation [3]

Biophys (talk) 22:33, 25 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Both claims are directly supported by the two sources I gave. Offliner (talk) 13:33, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Where are they supported by sources? Cite them please, just as I cited several sources that tell precisely the opposite. Even if they tell what you claim (I do not see that), this is obviously a controversial question that does not belong to BLP introduction.Biophys (talk) 21:45, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Zakayev calls to lay down weapons

[edit]

"The leadership of Ichkeria has taken the decision to stop armed resistance in the Chechen territory against the Chechen police forces starting August 1."

"I hope starting with this day Chechens will never shoot at each other," he added. [4] LokiiT (talk) 01:49, 30 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Tone of the article

[edit]

I definitely don't like the biased tone of this article. The author obviously sympathizes with the "Chechen fighters", calls Beslan tragedy a "bloody confusion". Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a political stage. This article needs a check for objectivity. Leo (talk) 09:37, 18 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Cyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request it's removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.
