This is an ongoing task and your help would be appreciated. Have a read of some of the existing classifications so you know what this is about, and please do read the instructions before starting, as there are a few tweaks and other jobs we can do at the same time as classifying with minimal extra effort and good returns!
Article assessment
[edit]Welcome to WikiProject Spiders' article assessment. The bot providing the classification information runs once a day at about 6:00 UTC, so most of the time the data presented here have a lag of one day.
How to assess
[edit]- Locate an unassessed spider related articles which are within the scope of the project. Those we know about reside in Category:Unassessed Spiders articles.
- Assess the article using the class and importance scheme below.
- Once assessed, the {{WPSpiders}} template needs to be included (not subst'd) on the Talk page with the correct parameters. (Most articles will have it already, but may not have the correct parameters).
- You can edit the /comments subpage to add comments about why you rated the article the way you did. Please sign and date your comment with ~~~~ as usual.
- Apply small fixes on the spot (or big fixes if you have the time and inclination).
- While you are there, check that the article is in at least one (and usually only one) spider category.
- If the article is graded better than a stub but it has a stub template, remove the stub template(s) from the article.
- If the article in serious need of some 'tender loving care', add it to Wikipedia:WikiProject_Spiders#Adopt_an_article
- You can add stubs to the "articles to expand" section of the To Do list, add cleanup candidates to that list too.
- If the article needs an image, include
|needs-image=yes
in the {{WPSpiders}} template; this will add the article to Category:Wikipedia requested images of spiders. - If an article might be in need of either merging or splitting, please note the article first and, for merge proposals, any articles you would suggest merging the article into. update this
Examples
[edit]For example, use
- {{WikiProject Spiders|class=B|importance=Mid}}, or the shorter {{WPSpiders|B|Mid}}, if you think it's a mid importance B class article
- {{WikiProject Spiders|class=Stub|importance=Low}}, or the shorter {{WPSpiders|Stub|Low}}, if you think it's a low importance Stub class article
- {{WikiProject Spiders|class=Redirect}}, or the shorter {{WPSpiders|Redirect}}, if it's a redirect to a spider article; note that
|importance=
is not used in this case
Assessment scheme
[edit]Article class scheme
[edit]Articles that fall within this wikiproject should have the project template placed on their talk pages with |class=one of the values below
; |importance=
should also be specified. Example: {{WikiProject Spiders|class=Start|importance=Low}} or the equivalent shorthand {{WPSpiders|Start|Low}}.
Status | Meaning of Status |
---|---|
NA | (NA=Not Assessed) The class of this article has not yet been assessed. There shouldn't be any such articles, so the category should be empty. |
SIA | The article is a set index article (SIA). A spider SIA is a list article about spiders that share the same (or a similar) name, either the same English name (e.g. Banana spider) or the same synonym (e.g. Sparassus argelasius). Unlike a disambiguation page, it can contain extra information, links, images, etc. |
List | The article is a list. |
Stub | The article is a stub or a very short article that will need a lot of work to bring it to A-Class level. For genus pages, this is anything up to a taxobox and basic description of family, authority, species list, and endemic location. |
Start | The article has some content useful to readers, but it is still very weak in certain areas. It includes everything a stub class article has plus some extra information. This can include physical description, author notes, or anything in addition to the basic information that makes up a stub class. |
C | The article has more content useful to readers, but may be missing one or more of the following: adequate references, balance of content/NPOV or an important section. |
B | The article is "almost there" but it may still be missing one of the following: balance of content, NPOV or an important section. Alternatively, the English may need a comprehensive rewrite to make it flow. |
GA | Reserved exclusively for articles that have received "Good Article" status, and meet the current criteria for Good Articles. Article should be at or around A-class to receive this tag. |
A | The article provides a well-written and complete description of the topic, as described in How to write a Great Article. It includes a well-written introduction to the topic, and an appropriate series of headings to break up the article. It should have sufficient external literature references, preferably from the "hard" literature rather than websites. It should be well illustrated, with no copyright problems. |
FL | Reserved exclusively for articles that have received "Featured list" status, and meet the current criteria for featured lists. |
FA | Reserved exclusively for articles that have received "Featured article" status, and meet the current criteria for featured articles. |
Non-article class scheme
[edit]Pages that are not articles but fall within this wikiproject should also have the project template placed on their talk pages with |class=one of the values below
. In these cases, |importance=
is omitted (it defaults to "NA"). Example: {{WikiProject Spiders|class=Redirect}} or the equivalent shorthand {{WPSpiders|Redirect}}.
Status | Meaning of Status |
---|---|
Category | Used for category pages, e.g. Category:Araneomorphae. |
Disambig | Used for disambiguation pages that disambiguate between spiders as well as other items. Pages that only disambiguate between spiders are better treated as Set Index Articles (SIAs) – see above – because these are more flexible in their content. |
Draft | Used for draft articles, i.e. articles with the title prefixed "Draft:". The class must be changed as soon as they are moved to the main article space. |
File | Used for files stored in Wikipedia rather than in Commons. These are rare, but occasionally used for purely internal use where they would not be of any value outside the encyclopedia. |
Project | Used for pages like this one that are only concerned with the project and not intended for the general reader. |
Redirect | Used for redirects concerned with spiders, e.g. from an English name to a scientific name or vice versa, or from a synonym to an accepted scientific name. |
Template | Used for templates concerned with spiders. |
Article importance grading scheme
[edit]Status | Meaning of Status |
---|---|

High | This article is fairly important to this project, as it covers a general area of knowledge (e.g. spider families). |
Mid | This article is relatively important to this project, as it fills in some more specific knowledge of certain areas (e.g. commonly known spider species). |
Low | This article is of less importance to this project, as it covers a highly specific area of knowledge or a less well known spider species. |
NA | (NA=Not Assessed) This article is belongs to a class of article that does not need an assessment (e.g. a Category) or it has not yet been assessed. |
Articles covered by the project
[edit]The covered articles are sorted in two ways: first, by class/quality (e.g. A, GA, B, Start, Stub), then, inside these categories, by importance (e.g. Top, High, Mid, Low).
