Mratinje Dam

Mratinje Dam is a concrete arch-gravity dam in the canyon of the Piva River in Montenegro.
Mratinje Dam was completed in 1975. The building of the dam resulted in flooding of Piva canyon and creating Piva Lake, with its 112.5 km² making it the second largest lake in Montenegro.
The dam is 200 m high—one of the highest in Europe. The dam is 268 m long and 4.5 m thick at the crest, while it is 30 m long and 36 m thick at the base. The foundations go as much as 38 m into the ground. 820,000 m³ of concrete and 5 million kg of steel were built into the dam.
The hydroelectic power station at Mratinje is capable of producing 800 million kilowatt-hours.
The location of the 16th century Piva Monastery was flooded by the lake, so while the dam was built, the monastery was cut in pieces and moved to a higher ground, 3.5 km away. It was reconstructed in the original way.
