GMC CCKW 2½-ton 6×6 truck
Appearance
The GMC CCKW is a 2 1/2, "Deuce and a Half" ton 6X6, army cargo truck that saw service in World War II. The CCKW came in many variants, the simplest being open cab or closed cab and long wheel base (LWB) or short wheel base, (SWB).
Nomenclature
The designation of CCKW - the name comes from the model naming terminology used by GMC; the C indicates a vehicle designed in 1941, the C meant conventional cab, the K indicated all-wheel drive and the W indicated two powered rear axles.
- The term "Deuce and a Half" is evidently a post war term that was generally applied to all 2 1/2 ton cargo trucks. Drivers also affectionately referred to them as "Jimmy's".
