The Basketball Super League is a professional basketball league based throughout Canada and the United States. The goal is to model the league after professional soccer and basketball leagues in Europe, by playing against teams in The Basketball League.[1][2] The most recent champions are the London Lightning who defeated the KW Titans 3–1 in the 2024 BSL finals.

History

[edit]

On June 18, 2022, the National Basketball League of Canada (NBLC) announced that The Basketball League President David Magley, a former NBL Commissioner, will work alongside Audley Stephenson, the current NBLC Commissioner in overseeing the growth of both leagues.[3]

For the 2021–22 season, the NBLC announced that they had agreed to inter-league series play with several teams from The Basketball League. The games played between the teams from the two leagues are included in their respective regular season standings for each league.[4]

On April 11, 2023, Dave Magley and announced the formation a new professional basketball league called the Basketball Super League is to begin on December 26, 2023. The league will consist of teams located in Canada and the United States. The KW Titans, London Lightning and the Sudbury Five from the National Basketball League of Canada would be the first three teams to join. .[5]
