Ý ý

Ý (ý) is a letter of Old Norse, Icelandic, and Faroese alphabets, as well as in Turkmen language. In Czech and Slovak languages it is a long form of the vowel y. Technically, it is an acute form of Y.

In Icelandic, Ý is the 29th letter of the alphabet, between Y and Þ. It is read as i (short) or iː (long).[1]

In Turkmen, Ýý represents the consonant /j/. As opposed to Yy, which represents the vowel sound /ɯ/.

Other uses

In Vietnamese language, Ý means Italy. Its origin is from the first syllab of the Chinese word 意大利 (Yìdàlì), that means also "Italy".
