Valten is a fictional character prominent in the Warhammer Fantasy Battles Storm of Chaos campaign.

Valten is the name of a blacksmith's son who played a key role in the Storm of Chaos Campaign. It was alleged by the renegade Sigmarite priest Luthor Huss and his followers that Valten was in fact the Chosen of Sigmar or even Sigmar reborn, which was signified by his two-tailed comet birthmark (the twin-tailed comet being a sacred sign to Sigmar) and the fact that his own history bore much resemblance to Sigmar's.

Valten lived his life in idyll, and had always been known to be special. But he was sorely put to the test when Beastmen attacked his village. While others ran in fear, he took up two hammers from his father's smithy and struck down Beastman after Beastman, eventually slaying their chieftain. Valten was regarded as a local hero, and word of his deed spread, eventually reaching the ears of the rabble-rousing Luthor Huss.

Proclaiming Valten to be the Chosen of Sigmar, Luthor and his army of fanatics rallied around Valten and marched on Altdorf, where Luthor demanded that Emperor Karl-Franz step down and allow Sigmar's Chosen to take the throne. After long consideration, the Emperor refused to step down, but instead gifted Valten with Sigmar's hammer Ghal-Miraz, proclaiming him to be the spiritual leader of the people of the Empire.

Along the way, Valten was gifted with ornate armor from the Dwarfs and a fine Elven steed from Teclis the Loremaster. Eventually, he engaged Archaon in a duel to the death, with the aid of Luthor. Huss was knocked out of the fight almost immediately, leaving Valten and Archaon to rain down blow after blow on each other. Eventually, Archaon stood victorious, with Valten barely alive. However, his victory would be short-lived, as he was blindsided by the Black Orc warboss Grimgor Ironhide moments later.

Valten lay in bed, slowly recovering from his wounds, but one day his body was discovered to be gone, and a greenly-glowing knife stabbed into his mattress. Though none know for sure what it could mean, fan speculation and evidence suggest that he was assassinated by the Skaven assassin Deathmaster Snikch.
