Speedy deletion nomination of Tom Flash and the Lightning Band
[edit]A tag has been placed on Tom Flash and the Lightning Band requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for musical topics. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}}
to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. - Hi, thank you for noting your reasons for why the page should be kept. Unfortunately, I do not think they will be enough to keep the page, for several reasons:
- Admitting you are a founding member of the band shows you have a considerable conflict of interest with editing its article. COI editing is strongly discouraged due to the fact that such edits would be inherently biased. Even if you were to solve the other problems with the page, I doubt that admins would allow you to keep it due to the conflict of interest you have.
- Wikipedia is not meant to be used as a promotional tool. You would be better off sticking with Myspace, Facebook, or a stand-alone webpage.
- Other "smaller" bands (perhaps you could cite some examples?) have pages on Wikipedia, presumably because they fulfill the criteria of WP:BAND, which is the criteria for what makes a band notable enough to deserve an article. Looking at the text of your article, all it mentions is that the band is from Boston, who the members are, that they aren't signed to a label, and haven't released any albums or EPs yet. Those last two items will definitely hurt the article's chances of staying up, as those would indicate that the band is not established or notable enough for inclusion on Wikipedia.
- Finally, I see nothing to suggest that this band is a joke or a fake band. That is not the issue at hand.
- I hope you understand and that this does not dampen your spirits too much. Many bands simply aren't notable enough to be included on Wikipedia. If your band does make it big, enough to be considered notable per Wikipedia standards, please realize that you probably still shouldn't get involved in editing it--an example being that Black Francis probably didn't create the article about the Pixies. If you have any other concerns, please feel free to reply. All the best, TheLetterM (talk) 22:52, 9 November 2009 (UTC)
