Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company → PLDT – In normal conversation, no one uses "Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company" but "PLDT". Relisted. BDD (talk) 17:45, 30 April 2013 (UTC) –HTD 11:56, 20 April 2013 (UTC)
Here are some news sources the past few months:
- "PLDT in a statement said it is now offering PLDT Cloud" meaning of PLDT not specified.
- "Emplyees of Digitel Telecommunications Philippines Inc. have asked to be absorbed into the company’s new parent, Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) following the merger between the two telcos" In this case, the news source not only spelled out what "PLDT" means, but also the meaning of "Digitel".
- "Telecommunications leader PLDT believes in bright young innovators..." same as the first one.
- "the launch of PLDT’s most powerful broadband, Fibr" same as the first one.
Some Google news search results:
- "PLDT", but without "philippine long distance telephone": 582
- "Philippine Long Distance Telephone", but with out "PLDT": 187

- Oppose—A sole initialism as article title would have to be extremely well-known. Tony (talk) 13:21, 30 April 2013 (UTC)
- Oppose—Concur. "Titles should be precise enough to unambiguously define the topical scope of the article, but no more precise than that." –

- Oppose—Concur. "Titles should be precise enough to unambiguously define the topical scope of the article, but no more precise than that." –
- Oppose: Per Tony1's comment. Even the FBI, USSR, and CIA's article names are their full ones. Illegitimate Barrister (talk) 07:26, 1 May 2013 (UTC)
- Responses (to everyone): The PLDT name is extremely well-known, at least in the Philippines; "Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company" is not. Everyone knows what FBI, USSR, and CIA mean (well maybe not that quite for the USSR as "Soviet Union" is a more popular name), but while many people may know what PLDT means, it is dredged into the subconscious and the initial has become to be its most prevalent name by far.

Move article to "PLDT"
I support the move to PLDT. "PLDT" is far and away the WP:Commonname. Think IBM not International Business Machines Corporation; 3M not Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing Company; NATO not North Atlantic Treaty Organization; BBC; CNN; PBS... While NATO is more widely known then PLDT, PBS is not really known outside the U.S and IBM and 3M not known outside Western corporate circles. (how many average Filipinos or Indians or Kenyans could tell you what PBS, IBM or 3M is?) That's just like PLDT, which is not really known outside the third-largest English speaking nation the Philippines. If PBS is the name of that article, then clearly PLDT should be the name of this article. The use of PLDT is as common as PBS -- no one uses the full name except in the most formal of situations and always in conjunction with its more common name. The only difference is that PBS is common in the United States and Wikipedia was formed in America.--Iloilo Wanderer (talk) 02:53, 26 May 2015 (UTC)
- In other reason, I am wanting that the article be moved to PLDT Inc.. It has already been posted in their website (link here) that the company's official name will already be known as such. Chitetskoy (talk) 05:01, 14 June 2016 (UTC)
