So here I am...

...here in central China and consuming 米酒. This is stuff I can get all over the place in (quite literally) every grocery store, supermarket and even open-air market. And as I consume it, I can't help but notice that ... what I'm consuming—quite clearly labelled 米酒 with no other qualifying characters—doesn't even slightly resemble what this article describes. Indeed what this article describes I've never seen in almost a decade of living here in central China.
