Crash Adams is a Canadian pop music duo from Toronto, Ontario, most noted as Juno Award nominees for Breakthrough Group of the Year at the Juno Awards of 2024.[1]
Origins
During their performance of "Give me a kiss" on stage at Let's Celebrate 2024 in Singapore, it was explained that the bands name comes from a movie about a doctor that heals with laughter, love, positivity and good vibrations. Although the movie name was not mentioned, based on the synopsis it can be assumed the movie the band is referring to is Patch Adams.
Music career
The duo, consisting of Rafaele "Crash" Massarelli and Vince "Adams" Sasso, began making music together in the 2020s, but struggled to get attention until hitting on a social media strategy that involved transporting Massarelli's grandmother's red couch to unexpected locations to create short TikTok videos.[2] With a quickly expanding fanbase, they released a number of singles over the next few years until signing to Warner Music Canada, which released the four-song EP California Girl in early 2023.[3]
In 2023, they also participated in the Artists for Feel Out Loud supergroup cover of Serena Ryder's "What I Wouldn't Do".[4]
Viral success
During one of their street performances of "Caroline" on Santa Monica pier, a rapper by the name of Jaree spontaneously hopped on the end of the track with a freestyle rap.
The clip quickly went viral on social media platform TikTok with over 49 million views, and shot the band into the spotlight.
A few months later, a similar occurrence happened again in the same location while the band was performing their song "Destination". Rapper Kingvvibe5285 performed a freestyle rap which quickly gained popularity on TikTok.
This viral popularity has led to the band creating their recent "Can you rap in public" series, where the video that achieves the most votes on YouTube will appear within the official remix.
