The Monastery Church, also known as the Church of the Dominican Monastery (Romanian: Biserica Mănăstirii Dominicane), is a Gothic church belonging to the Dominican Order in Sighişoara, Romania. The church was erected in 1289, and incorporates half of a Dominican monastery which was demolished in 1888.[1] The monastery was one of a network planned by Paulus Hungarus (Paul the Hungarian) throughout the Kingdom of Hungary to act as a bulwark against heresy.[2] Saxon nobleman Leonard Barlabassy gave the church an endowment.[3]
In 2014 a photograph taken by Catalina Borta, on holiday at the time, was sent to the Israeli Extraterrestrials and UFOs Research Organization. The photograph was of a mural, believed to date from the sixteenth century and shows a disc hovering over the monastery with smoke billowing around it.[4][5]
