Nordlit is a Norwegian humanities journal that publishes articles on Nordic literature and culture. Most issues are multilingual—including English, French, German texts; as well as Norwegian, Swedish, and Danish sections. The journal belongs to UiT The Arctic University of Norway, the northernmost university in the world. Also due to its rather exotic location, a specific focus lies on Arctic themes and border studies, as well as Scandinavian literature.[1][2][3]
The name Nordlit is a paronomasia: in Norwegian, nordlys means northern lights; and the suffix -lit refers to literature. All of Nordlit’s content is freely available. Since 2005, the journal is listed in the Directory of Open Access Journals.[4]
Within the Norwegian scientific rating system, Nordlit is considered a level 1 publication.[5] The journal has a double-blind peer review policy. Nordlit has one regular issue each year, with articles being published continuously as soon as they are ready for publishing. In addition, there are specific thematic issues. These will be published as a whole number, when all the articles are ready to be published.
Nordlit is a ‘Creative Commons’ publication. The journal has no article submission charges or article processing charges. Since issue 26 (2010), all content of Nordlit is distributed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License. The journal is included in the PKP Private LOCKSS Network.
