From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *l-t(j)ak (to climb; to ascend) (STEDT). Compare (OC *tɯːŋ) (Wang, 1923) < *s-tjaŋ, as well as Burmese တက် (tak, to climb up, get in a vehicle); see the latter for more cognates.
