Probably from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *k/ʔ-r(ə/a)w (to fry, roast, cook). Cognate with (OC *rew, *rewʔ, *rews, “to hunt at night with torches, burn, make burnt offering”), Burmese ကြော် (krau, to fry) (STEDT #5862).
