Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hárćas (“ulcer; haemorrhoids”), from Proto-Indo-European *h₁élḱos (“wound, sore, ulcer”). Cognate with Ancient Greek ἕλκος (hélkos, “wound, sore”), Latin ulcus (“ulcer”) (→ English ulcer), Sogdian [script needed] (ʾrsx, “haemorrhoids”).
