Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Turkic *čï̄pgan (furuncle);[1] cognate with Azerbaijani çiban, Bashkir себешке (sebeşke), Chuvash ҫăпан (śăpan), Kazakh шиқан (şiqan), Southern Altai чибишке (čibiške), Turkmen çȳban, Tuvan шивишки (şivişki) and Uzbek chipqon.

  1. pimple, furuncle, boil, pustule, a localized accumulation of pus in the skin, resulting from infection

  2. abscess, a cavity caused by tissue destruction filled with pus and surrounded by inflamed tissue
