Etymology
[edit]From Aramaic ܒܹܝܬ ܠܚܹܡ (beyt lḥem), likely from Biblical Hebrew בֵּית לֶחֶם (bēṯ léḥem), from an unknown Canaanite origin, and matched to the native cognates بَيْت (bayt) + لَحْم (laḥm), which makes it sound like a "house of meat". Believed to be related to the name of the god Lahamu or Lahmu.
