[edit]From Proto-Slavic *dolъ. Typically reconstructed as an o-stem, in Bulgarian the word exhibits u-stem declension, as attested in the adverb Bulgarian до́лу (dólu, “down”) (fosilized locative case). Compare Old Church Slavonic долъ (dolŭ), gen. долоу (dolu).
