[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *spor-, an o-grade of Proto-Indo-European *sper- (“to strew”). Cognate with σπείρω (speírō, “I sow”), σπέρμα (spérma, “semen, sperm”), and Albanian farë; see σπείρω (speírō) for more.[1]
