Etymology
[edit]First attested in Mycenean Greek as 𐀞𐀯 (pa-si). From an earlier *παντ-ς (*pant-s), from Proto-Indo-European *ph₂-ent- (“all”) (whence Tocharian B po (“all, every”)),[1] apparently a derivative of *peh₂- (“to herd, protect”).
