[edit]From Ottoman Turkish شریلدی (şırıldı, “the sound of a stream of water falling into a pool”),[1] from Ottoman Turkish شریل (şırıl, “onomatopoeic for; the sound or action of a fluid flowing”), from Ottoman Turkish شر (şır, “onomatopoeic for; a weak, treble sound of flowing water”),[2][3] morphologically şır + -l + -tı.
