Likely borrowed from Aragonese vaxiella, with the /-jeʎa/ equated to Castilian /-iʎa/ (cf. Aragonese castiello: Spanish castillo). From Late Latin vāscella, plural of vāscellum, a diminutive based ultimately on Classical Latin vās (vessel).
