From Proto-Finnic *vakka, borrowed from Proto-Baltic [Term?] (compare Latvian vāks (lid, cover), Lithuanian vókas (cover, eyelid)).

vakka

  1. A roundish, voluminous container equipped with a cap.
  2. (in particular) A type of wooden container of varying size, made of bent thin board to make it strong and light, usually equipped with a close fitting cap.
    vakka kantensa valitseea man is known by the company he keeps (literally, “a vakka chooses its cap”)
  3. bushel

  4. (historical) A premetric unit of dry volume used in Sweden (halvspann in Swedish) and Finland. According to a 1665 regulation, equal to 36.64 liters, quite close to an imperial bushel.
