From Proto-Celtic *tegoslougom, from Proto-Celtic *tegos (house) + Proto-Celtic *slougos (troup, army), equivalent to +‎ llu. Compare Cornish teylu, Irish teaghlach, Scottish Gaelic teaghlach, Manx lught thie.
