[edit]From Proto-Oceanic *taliŋa (compared to Samoan taliga, Fijian daliga),[1] from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *taliŋa (compare with Malay telinga, Tagalog tainga), from Proto-Austronesian *Caliŋa.[2] See also Tongan talingelinga and Fijian daliga for sense of fungus by semantic extension.[3]
