Unknown.[1][2] Perhaps from Arabic صَوْتَك (ṣawt-ak, your voice); note that the Standard Arabic diphthong -aw- usually corresponds to [oː] in spoken Arabic dialects. According to the Houaiss dictionary, first attested in the early 18th century.
