Etymology

Late Latin borrowing from Ancient Greek σκανδαλίζω (skandalízō, cause to stumble, give offense), from σκάνδαλον (skándalon, the trigger of a trap; a stumbling-block) whence Latin scandalum, of uncertain origin.
