[edit]From Proto-Celtic *annketi, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂neḱ- (“to reach”). The preterite ·ánaic is from Proto-Celtic *ānonke, from the Proto-Indo-European reduplicated perfect form *h₂eh₂nónḱe, compare Sanskrit आनंश (ānáṃśa, “I have attained”) (perfect of अश्नुते (aśnuté)).
