Perhaps a corruption of Hindi घासखाटा (ghāskhāṭā, literally “cutter of grass”) or Hindi घासखोदा (ghāskhodā, literally “digger of grass”). From घास (ghās, “grass”) and काटना (kāṭnā, “to cut”) or खोदना (khodnā, “to dig”)
