Perhaps a corruption of Hindi घासखाटा (ghāskhāṭā, literally cutter of grass) or Hindi घासखोदा (ghāskhodā, literally digger of grass). From घास (ghās, grass) and काटना (kāṭnā, to cut) or खोदना (khodnā, to dig)
