[edit]Inherited from Vulgar Latin *camocia, from Late Latin camōx, from Gaulish camox, probably from an extinct Alpine language (Raetic, Ancient Ligurian), possibly Proto-Indo-European *kem- (“without horns”). Doublet of chamuz.
