Etymology

[edit]

Probably from Norwegian Nynorsk finn (Sami) +‎ Norwegian Nynorsk mann (man). The first part may also be derived from Norwegian Nynorsk fjell through Russian pronouciation with an unstressed e sound.

The palatalized spelling Fielmain is derived from the common Northern Norwegian dialectal pronunciation (compare to mainnj).
